At a press conference on September 5, the Russian Defense Ministry said that the Sever Forces Group of the Russian army repelled four attacks by Kiev forces near the settlements of Matveyevka, Olgovka, Malaya Loknya and Cherkasskoye Porechnoye in the direction of Kursk.
The Russian Defense Ministry also added that the group had thwarted attempts by the Ukrainian army to attack near the settlements of Borki, Kamyshevka and Maryevka.
About 40 Ukrainian soldiers were killed or wounded in the failed attacks, the ministry said, adding that a US-made Stryker armored personnel carrier, three infantry fighting vehicles and five vehicles were destroyed.
In addition, the Russian Defense Ministry also reported another wave of Russian airstrikes targeting the 22nd and 61st Mechanized Brigades; the 80th and 82nd Air Assault Brigades; the 92nd Assault Brigade; the 152nd Jaeger Brigade; and the 1004th Security and Service Brigade of Ukraine near the settlements of Apanasovka, Borki, Vishnyovka, Viktorovka, Gordeyevka, Guevo, Ivashkovsky, Kositsa, Lyubimovka, Martynovka, Malaya Loknya, Novoivanovka, Novoya Sorochina, Orlovka, Obukhovka, Snagost and Yuzhny.
According to the Russian Defense Ministry, the Russian military also carried out other airstrikes against the reserves of the 21st, 22nd, 115th Mechanized Brigades; the 80th, 82nd, 95th Air Assault Brigades; the 92nd Assault Brigade; the 1st and 17th National Guard Brigades as well as the 103rd, 106th and 129th Territorial Defense Brigades near the settlements of Belopolye, Boyaro Lezhachi, Vorozhba, Gritsenkovo, Glukhov, Glybnoye, Kruzhok, Linovo, Mirpolye, Orlovka, Obody, Pisarevka, Sumy, Starye Virki, Yunakovka and Yampol in the Sumy region of Ukraine.
"Over the past 24 hours, the Armed Forces of Ukraine have lost up to 370 servicemen and 17 armored vehicles, including two infantry fighting vehicles, two armored personnel carriers, 13 armored fighting vehicles, as well as two artillery pieces, two M270 multiple launch rocket systems of American production, an electronic warfare station and 12 vehicles," the Russian Defense Ministry informed.

"Since the start of fighting in the Kursk region, the losses of the Armed Forces of Ukraine have amounted to more than 10,100 troops; 81 tanks; 41 infantry fighting vehicles; 72 armored personnel carriers; 589 armored fighting vehicles; 325 vehicles; 74 artillery pieces; 24 multiple launch rocket system launchers, including seven M142 HIMARS systems and five US-made M270 systems, eight SAM launchers; two transporter-loader vehicles, 17 electronic warfare stations; seven counter-battery radars; two air defense radars; eight engineering vehicles as well as two anti-obstacle vehicles and one UR-77 mine clearance vehicle," the report concluded.
The Russian Defense Ministry also released videos showing recent airstrikes by Ka-52M and Mi-28NM attack helicopters against Ukrainian targets in Kursk.
Earlier, in the early morning of August 6, Kiev forces backed by foreign mercenaries launched an attack on Kursk. Russian troops stopped the advance of Kiev forces in Kursk. Currently, Ukrainian forces are said to be preparing a counterattack.
