The Russian news agency TASS on October 19 quoted Alexander Drobotov, deputy commander of the assault battalion of the 55th Separate Motorized Infantry Brigade of the Central Group of Forces of the Russian army, saying that the unified defense system of the Ukrainian army (AFU) in the Pokrovsk-Myrnohrad region is almost non-existent, as the Russian army (RFAF) is cutting off this system.

The RFAF's capture of the Novopavlivka bridgehead and their subsequent breakthrough in this direction isolated the AFU's Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad defenses. It can be said that the unified defense system almost did not exist, although some lines of communication remained.

The Myrnohrad area is currently under siege, while in Pokrovsk, fighting is taking place within the city itself, with most of the city under Russian control. “The two areas are isolated from each other and the unified defense system has been broken,” Drobotov said, according to TASS.

Russian media have long reported that the RFAF will attempt to penetrate the AFU defenses in Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad. Currently, the Ukrainian army lacks a unified defense line in Pokrovsk, and the AFU defenses here are not connected and operate mostly separately. However, the Ukrainian army is putting up fierce resistance.

Officially, there were no RFAF units in Myrnohrad, nor were there any battles in the urban area, although Russian reconnaissance and commando groups were active for some time, cutting off supply routes and causing chaos.

Myrnohrad is under siege, as in Pokrovsk the Russians have crossed the railway, that is, entered the northern part of the city. Meanwhile, AMK Mapping writes that in the area east-northeast of Pokrovsk, the RFAF continues to attack the approaches to Mirnograd, making progress in two different areas, gaining another 6.3 km².

North of Myrnohrad, the Russians advanced from the village of Novoekonomichne, captured the Kapitalna mine and other positions to the north, and began to advance northeast of Mirnograd. The RFAF then penetrated the forested areas east of the Kazenyi Torets tributary, entering the industrial area on the edge of the city. The RFAF also advanced west of the tributary, reaching the tree lines just north of Mirnograd, forcing the AFU to retreat to the railway line.

To the south of the city, at the border between the Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad urban areas, the RFAF continued to consolidate the bridgehead at Kozatske, controlling the central part of the village, advancing into the southern houses. This helped to protect part of the southern flank of the formations that had entered the first houses.

However, AMK Mapping later said that about 2 hours after they published the map, the situation in Pokrovsk had become significantly worse for Ukraine. Currently, less than 50% of the city is under Kiev's control, while the RFAF is present in most areas south of the railway line, including the center.

The E-50 highway has now been cut off through the industrial area northwest of Pokrovsk, meaning that resupplying the Ukrainian troops stationed in Pokrovsk is now even more difficult. It appears that the RFAF is nearing the end of the battle for Pokrovsk - Mirnograd.

On the western flank of Pokrovsk, the RFAF intensified its raids in and around the city, making further progress in three different areas. In the southeast, they concentrated along the railway north of Chunyshyne and advanced into Novopavlivka. The Russians advanced east along the main road, taking control of most of the village and pushing the Ukrainians back northeast.

In the south, the RFAF entered the high-rise buildings in Shakhtarskyi and began to penetrate north of the E-50 highway, into Prospecta, Sobachivka and the hospital. Breakthrough operations also continued in the high-rise buildings of the Pivdennyi and Soniachnyi areas, as well as towards Yuvileynyy Park.

Further northwest, the RFAF captured the rest of the industrial area west of Pokrovsk and re-established control of positions at Durniak and Pervomaika. From here, Russian thrusts were underway, crossing the railway line into the northwestern industrial areas, pushing straight into the city center towards the station.

RFAF offensive operations also continued towards Prospecta from the east and deeper into the central market area. In the west of Pokrovsk, the Russians controlled another 4.15 km². Divgen channel confirmed: "RFAF assault groups have reached the Pokrovsk railway station. There are still important areas in the rear that need to be controlled, but in general this does not change the situation, the city is about to collapse".

Meanwhile, the RVvoenkor channel confirmed that the situation in Pokrovsk is very chaotic, because the Russian army attacked many areas in the inner city, causing heavy losses to the Ukrainian side. Specifically, RFAF assault groups are increasingly breaking into the city, especially in the west of Pokrovsk, and their soldiers have even been recorded near the railway.

“The situation in the Lazurny and Shakhtyorsky areas is largely unknown, but preliminarily, Russian troops are clearing apartment buildings,” Ukrainian military analysts admitted later, asserting that “many Ukrainian soldiers were killed and wounded as a result of ambushes.”

"The gray zone is expanding. The situation in Pokrovsk for the AFU has worsened significantly, if in the summer the assault groups consisted of only 2 or 3 gunmen, now the RFAF operates in larger groups and tries to consolidate positions in the city... In short: chaos," a pro-Kiev source complained. (photo source Military Review, Ukrinform, Rvvoenkory).
