On October 21, the International Forum "Expanding Digital Investment: Connecting Europe's Technological Advantage with Vietnam's Digital Future" took place.

The event was co-organized by D4D Hub, EU Delegation to Vietnam, AVSE Global and EuroCham Vietnam, in collaboration with the National Data Association (NDA) and the Vietnam Software and Information Technology Services (VINASA).

At the forum, Mr. Bui The Duy, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology , said that Vietnam identifies digital transformation as the central driving force of socio-economic development, with three main pillars: Digital Government, digital economy and digital society, taking data, technology and people as the foundation.

Vietnam has issued a list of 11 national strategic technologies, notably AI, blockchain, quantum computing, 5G/6G technology, big data, cloud computing, and cybersecurity technology . These will be priority areas for investment, international cooperation, and development of high-quality human resources in the coming years.

"Vietnam is moving towards developing responsible AI, based on reliable, safe data and serving the public interest. In this process, the European Union (EU) is an important and reliable partner," said Mr. Bui The Duy.

Besides, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Loc Ha said that the city determined that strengthening cooperation with the European Union in the fields of digital transformation, high technology and innovation is a direction in line with the development orientation in the new period.

2025 is considered an important turning point when Ho Chi Minh City merges with the two provinces of Binh Duong and Ba Ria - Vung Tau, forming a megacity of more than 6,770 km², with a population of more than 14 million people, and an estimated GRDP of 123 billion USD, accounting for about 23% of the country's GRDP.

With a new scale, Ho Chi Minh City considers comprehensive digital transformation an inevitable path for sustainable development, focusing on perfecting institutions, building digital infrastructure and training high-quality human resources, meeting the requirements of the digital economy associated with green transformation.

The city wants to cooperate with the European Investment Bank (EIB) and EU financial institutions to attract high-quality capital to invest in digital infrastructure, high technology, semiconductors and green energy.

"The city will strengthen cooperation in research and development, technology transfer and human resource training, and learn from EU experience in sandboxes, open data and digital finance," said Mr. Nguyen Loc Ha.
