Implement preventive measures early.

The city's Department of Health leaders stated that they have directed the City Center for Disease Control (CDC) to review, supplement, and ensure the availability of medicines, chemicals, and medical equipment for flood prevention and control, and post-flood environmental remediation. They are also proactively guiding localities in implementing environmental sanitation measures and treating flooded wells, boreholes, and water tanks according to the Ministry of Health 's guidelines.

In addition, coordinate with relevant units and localities to educate people about personal hygiene and environmental sanitation immediately after floods; and measures to prevent infectious diseases, especially for people in areas affected by storms, flash floods, inundation, and landslides.

Regional health centers ensure that 100% of households in flood-affected areas use water that has been disinfected according to regulations, and that well water is treated as soon as floodwaters recede. They also organize the spraying of residual chloramine B solution to disinfect public places such as markets, bus stations, schools, and landfills.

In particular, strengthen monitoring, detection, and timely handling of outbreaks of infectious diseases occurring before, during, and after heavy rains, flash floods, inundations, and landslides, such as respiratory infections, athlete's foot, and dengue fever; while also preventing diseases transmitted through the digestive tract...

According to Dr. Vo Quang Vinh, Director of the Hoa Vang Regional Health Center, recognizing the frequent flooding in the area, the unit proactively developed a plan for public awareness campaigns and implemented disease prevention measures. Simultaneously, they prepared sufficient supplies and equipment for timely response; and directed commune health stations to advise local authorities on strengthening disease prevention activities after natural disasters, storms, rain, and floods.

In addition, schools should coordinate to monitor, supervise, detect, and promptly handle infectious diseases, preventing the spread of epidemics.

According to the city's CDC leaders, the health sector has been continuously implementing awareness campaigns, monitoring, guidance, and prevention activities, especially during the current rainy and stormy season. Health officials and staff are proactively coordinating with units and localities to strengthen monitoring, analysis, and assessment of the situation in localities to promptly advise on disease prevention and control measures.

Community working together

During and after floods, many microorganisms, dust, garbage, and waste are carried by the water currents to various places, causing environmental pollution and posing many risks of disease outbreaks. Common diseases during the rainy season include: acute diarrhea, respiratory diseases, eye diseases, skin diseases, dengue fever, etc.

In light of this situation, the Department of Health has requested regional health centers to urgently assign personnel to specific locations to support local health stations in investigating, monitoring, and decisively handling isolated cases and small outbreaks in communes and wards.

According to the leader of the Ba Na Commune Health Station, in addition to strengthening propaganda and prevention of various diseases, the unit also promotes the role of population and community health collaborators in monitoring diseases in the community, mobilizing people to eliminate mosquito larvae, and maintaining environmental and personal hygiene.

Recognizing the danger posed by the increasing number of mosquitoes after the floods, Ms. Bui Thi Cuc (Ba Na commune) proactively implemented various measures to prevent dengue fever. In addition to clearing drains and removing bottles and containers to inhibit the growth of mosquito larvae and adult mosquitoes, Ms. Cuc also reminded family members to use mosquito nets carefully before sleeping and to use mosquito-repellent essential oils.

The city's CDC leaders advise people to proactively take preventive measures by ensuring they choose and prepare food safely and hygienically, eat cooked food and drink boiled water. They also recommend frequently washing hands with soap before and after preparing food, before eating, and after using the toilet.

Daily personal hygiene is necessary, including washing feet thoroughly and drying the spaces between toes after contact with floodwater or contaminated water; avoid bathing and washing clothes with dirty water. Eliminate mosquito larvae and pupae by covering water tanks and containers, and introducing fish into large water containers. Follow the principle of cleaning up as the water recedes, collecting, disposing of, and burying animal carcasses according to the instructions of health personnel. If you suspect you have contracted a disease, seek examination and treatment at the nearest medical facility.
