Da Nang promotes biosafety farming for sustainable development
Aiming for a sustainable livestock industry, good disease control and environmental protection, Da Nang city is actively encouraging people to expand their scale and switch to a concentrated livestock farming model on farms. The focus of this policy is the application of strict biosecurity measures to minimize disease risks, while minimizing negative impacts on the surrounding environment (According to the Agriculture and Environment newspaper).
A typical example of this approach is the pig farming model of Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Phuoc in Tan Phu village, Tay Ho commune. With a scale of more than 300 pigs, Mr. Phuoc's farm is operated according to strict biosafety procedures. Specifically, the barn area is built separately, completely separated from the family's living space and other livestock areas in the community.
Disease control is a top priority: the entire area is sprayed with disinfectant and sterilized with a specialized solution twice a day. Any person or vehicle entering or leaving must undergo mandatory disinfection.
The barn system is designed as a closed system, fully equipped with industrial fans, air conditioners and heaters operating in sync. This design helps maintain fresh air and stable temperature, thereby significantly reducing the risk of disease outbreaks.
Mr. Phuoc always adheres to the principle of wearing boots and protective gear when feeding pigs to prevent the spread of pathogens. In particular, the supply of food, drinking water, farming tools and feeding troughs are strictly controlled. He only uses certified food sources, absolutely does not use leftovers or unprocessed food.
Thanks to this scientific and disciplined farming method, Mr. Phuoc's pigs have always remained stable and healthy. Notably, his farm has not been affected by African swine fever while the epidemic is raging. Mr. Phuoc said: "During the tense epidemic period, I still sold more than 200 commercial pigs. Currently, I am raising 300 pigs and 30 sows to meet market demand during the upcoming Lunar New Year."
