According to a quick report from Thai Nguyen Electricity Company, by 12 noon on October 7, the 110kV power grid including the 110kV Thinh Dan transformer station and the 110kV Xi Mang Thai Nguyen transformer station had to cut off power urgently due to severe flooding.

Damage to the medium voltage grid: A total of 36 medium voltage lines were damaged and flooded, causing power outages in many areas. A serious landslide at pole 46 of the 373 E26.1 main line caused a 30m high steel pole to tilt and fall. This is the line supplying electricity to Cho Moi district, Na Ri district (old) and Bac Kan ward. Many localities were severely affected, such as: Cho Moi, Na Ri, Ba Be, Bac Kan, Phu Luong, Dinh Hoa, Vo Nhai, Thai Nguyen city (old)..., with about 10 poles broken and fallen due to heavy rain and landslides.

A representative of the Bac Kan Regional Power Management Team said: Heavy rain and landslides have caused damage to the power grid in the area managed by the unit. The 35kV line has fallen poles, trees in the corridor are at risk of falling and causing an incident; some branches and 22kV and 0.4kV lines are affected by landslides and flooding. The unit has handled, isolated the incident and restored power to 1,643/1,694 customers; 51 customers have not been restored due to flooding. The unit is continuing to monitor the weather and check the power grid.

Regarding the low voltage grid: Many areas were deeply flooded, the substations and low voltage lines were proactively cut off by Thai Nguyen Electricity Company to ensure people's safety. It is estimated that about 50 electric poles were broken, collapsed or tilted; many meter boxes were flooded in the areas of Tan Long, Quang Vinh, Tuc Duyen, Phan Dinh Phung...

Many residential areas were deeply flooded and the power grid was also affected.

The leader of Thai Nguyen Power Company said: Rain continues to fall in the province, the water level of Cau River continues to rise, many traffic routes are isolated, many residential areas are heavily flooded. Currently, the Company is forced to proactively cut off power to 301 flooded distribution substations with a total of 200,000 customers affected. The first floor headquarters of Thai Nguyen Power Company, the 110kV Enterprise Office and local management teams are all deeply flooded.

Thai Nguyen Electricity Company continues to maintain 24/7 on-call duty, urgently inspecting, troubleshooting, handling incidents, restoring the power system and ensuring safe and stable power supply to people and businesses in the area as soon as possible.

The Electricity Industry recommends that people in flooded areas do not touch flooded equipment, wires or meters; immediately turn off the power source in the house when there is a risk of water overflowing into sockets or electrical equipment; immediately notify the Electricity Industry when detecting electrical problems or dangers via the switchboard: 1900 6769
