“Vietnamese Goods Day” in Selgros - bringing Vietnamese lychees closer to German customers

On June 17, 2025, the Vietnam Trade Office in Germany coordinated with the Selgros wholesale supermarket system and the Bac Giang province trade promotion delegation to organize "Vietnamese Goods Day" in Berlin, Germany.

The event marked the first time Vietnamese fabrics were officially promoted in the German distribution system and took place on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Germany.

Attending the event were Vietnamese Ambassador to Germany Vu ​​Quang Minh, agencies affiliated to the Embassy, ​​Mr. Mario Berger - CEO of Selgros Lichtenberg, a number of commercial counselors of countries in Germany and representatives of nearly 30 German and Vietnamese enterprises operating in the fields of consulting, import and export.

This event was held with the highlight being lychee grown in Bac Giang, a northeastern province of Vietnam with great agricultural potential with nearly 300,000 hectares of cultivated land, favorable climate and soil conditions, and a rich crop ecosystem. In particular, lychee is the most prominent agricultural product, grown on an area of ​​nearly 30,000 hectares - accounting for over 60% of the fruit growing area of ​​the whole province. Currently, the product is present in more than 30 countries and territories, surpassing strict standards on technology and food safety, and the processing, packaging and logistics systems are increasingly invested in modern and synchronously. In addition to lychee, many other Vietnamese agricultural products and fruits were also promoted to German consumers on this occasion, such as fresh coconut, dragon fruit, green-skinned grapefruit, rice, canned foods, coffee, tea, and spices.

Speaking at the event, Ms. Dang Thi Thanh Phuong, Vietnam Trade Counselor in Germany, said that fruits and agricultural products from Vietnam are Vietnam's strong export products. German consumers have known some products such as coffee, seafood, tea, and spices from Vietnam, but many products are not yet popular in the German market.

The fact that Bac Giang province is promoting trade in Europe and directly introducing its lychee product is highly appreciated by the Selgros supermarket chain. This is not only an opportunity for German consumers to learn more about Vietnamese lychee, but also to experience some other typical Vietnamese agricultural products such as grapefruit, dragon fruit, fresh coconut, coffee, etc.

Mr. Nghiem Xuan Huong, Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the People's Council of Bac Giang province affirmed that "Vietnamese Goods Day in Selgros" is an important and meaningful trade promotion activity for Bac Giang province to introduce, promote and connect to promote the consumption of lychee and some typical agricultural products of Bac Giang farmers in the German market. This is also an opportunity to strengthen the introduction and cooperation in the fields of agriculture, trade, logistics and tourism between Bac Giang and partners in Germany. Currently, partners such as Mova Plus Joint Stock Company, Linsan Imex sro Company and many other enterprises in Germany and Europe are promoting cooperation to bring the world's best Bac Giang lychee closer and more to German consumers in particular and Europe in general.

For his part, Vietnamese Ambassador to Germany Vu ​​Quang Minh welcomed the “Vietnam Agricultural Products Festival” at Selgros, Germany’s leading supermarket in Berlin. According to Ambassador Vu Quang Minh, Vietnamese fruits are not only beautiful but also have a special flavor. The fact that Bac Giang province organizes a trade promotion right on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, an important milestone in the relationship between Vietnam and Germany, is an advantage.

This is an opportunity for both sides to join hands to further strengthen economic and trade relations, especially bringing excellent and unique agricultural products to German consumers in particular and Europe in general. Ambassador Vu Quang Minh thanked Selgros supermarket for its cooperation in bringing Vietnamese products closer to German customers. With the advantage of being a potential market with great purchasing power, lychee and agricultural products of Bac Giang, if chosen by German customers, means that they can be exported to many other countries in the world.

In addition to organizing Vietnamese Goods Day at Selgros Lichtenberg supermarket, the Trade Office also sent the delegation to work directly in Leipzig, a city with a large Vietnamese population and also a logistics center in East Germany. In Leipzig, the delegation worked directly with the Konzum supermarket chain - a very large supermarket chain in Leipzig with 57 stores in Leipzig and the Hansen Obst fresh fruit and vegetable chain in Leipzig, as well as worked with the Lac Thien Asian distribution system to promote Vietnamese agricultural products and seek opportunities to bring goods into the distribution systems here.
