Holding in my hands the book “Memories of the Countryside” by Journalist Huu Minh, former Editor-in-Chief of Thai Nguyen Newspaper, I was quite impressed right from the cover page. The image of Vietnamese countryside depicted on a warm green background gives readers a feeling of the peaceful prosperity of the Vietnamese countryside even before opening the book.
With nearly 200 pages of 34 works, Journalist Huu Minh has taken readers to lands both strange and familiar, where nature is always beautiful and people are always sincere and loyal.
In “Memories of the countryside”, Journalist Huu Minh devoted most of the pages to Dai Tu land, his hometown Thai Nguyen . Those are memories from the first days of coming to My Yen land to reclaim and grow tea in 1964, from the initial small tea fields under the hard-working hands of farmers, the area was expanded, then the Bac Ha tea cooperative was born with several dozen hectares. Tea trees are closely associated with the people of My Yen, supporting the people of My Yen to study and contributing to making the name of Thai Nguyen tea industry.
That is the memory of Dong Quang station (Thai Nguyen station), a place that once witnessed countless touching welcomes and farewells and "Following the train's wheels, there were countless happy and sad stories, memories, and excitement..."
Not only the Thai Nguyen countryside, Journalist Huu Minh also takes readers to other affectionate countrysides in every part of the country that he has had the opportunity to set foot on: Bach Long Vi Island in the Gulf of Tonkin, about 140km from the mainland, with a loyal and heroic history; the Central Highlands in the autumn, the sun stretches out endlessly, the endless green with the yellow color of flowers and fruits that anyone who has set foot on will never forget...
Journalism is associated with trips, each trip is an experience. That experience is expressed by Journalist Huu Minh in "Memories of the countryside", as a gratitude to the lands he has been to, the people he has met.
