On June 5, speaking at the Israel Public Policy Committee conference, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said that Washington will soon appoint a senior diplomat to promote reconciliation in the Middle East.

"We will soon be creating a new position to promote diplomacy and engagement with governments, the private sector and non-governmental organizations, all toward a more integrated and peaceful region," the US secretary of state said.
Mr. Blinken also noted that a more stable, prosperous and integrated region would benefit Israel, as well as the interests of regional partners and the United States…
However, according to the diplomat, efforts to promote integration and normalization of relations "are not a substitute for the peace process between Israel and Palestine".
In addition, Mr. Blinken also warned that Israel's demolition of houses in the West Bank and forced evictions of families who have lived in those houses for generations will affect the prospect of two states with Palestine.
"The expansion of settlements is clearly an obstacle to the hope we seek... Likewise, any move to annex the West Bank de facto or legislatively disrupts the historic status quo at sacred sites," the US foreign policy chief said.
