Elderly people set a shining example of economic development

(Baothanhhoa.vn) - In recent years, promoting the spirit of "Old age, bright example", the elderly members of Thanh Hoa City have not only been exemplary and pioneers in implementing local movements and activities, but also actively participated in the emulation movement "Elderly people doing good business" launched by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Elderly Association. Through the movement, many typical examples have emerged in building highly effective production models, setting bright examples for their children and grandchildren to follow.

The fruit tree planting model of the elderly in Dong Minh commune brings economic efficiency.

Mr. Dinh Sy Tuan, in Dong Minh commune, is a typical example of an elderly person in the local economic movement. Talking to Mr. Tuan, we learned that in 2006, his family participated in land consolidation and plot exchange to the commune's concentrated economic zone with an area of ​​over 1 hectare. Initially, he had to borrow capital, hire machinery to level the ground, improve the land, build roads to grow rice combined with raising fish, growing flowers... but the economic efficiency was not high. Always struggling to find a new direction, Mr. Tuan realized that the agricultural land area was suitable for growing many types of fruit trees. Thinking is doing, in 2012 he put a lot of effort, researching and learning from the experiences of farm owners in and outside the province to apply to the family's production model. Currently, his family's farm has over 700 trees of green-skinned grapefruit, Tan Lac grapefruit, Dien grapefruit, jackfruit... Every year, the profit is nearly 200 million VND, creating jobs for 10 seasonal workers with an income of 5 - 6 million VND/person/month.

Responding to the emulation movement "Elderly people doing good business" launched by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Elderly Association, in recent years, the Thanh Hoa City Elderly Association has directed and guided the Elderly Associations of communes and wards to promote propaganda and mobilize elderly members in the area to promote the role of "Old age, bright example", set a good example, actively participate in labor production, contribute to poverty reduction, and strive to become rich legitimately.

With the motto that the elderly who are still healthy and have the conditions should directly participate in production, business, and develop industries and services to increase income for themselves and their families; the elderly with poor health should guide their children and grandchildren about knowledge and experience to develop the family economy, stabilize and improve their lives, the association at all levels has proactively and extensively implemented the emulation movement of the elderly who are good at production and business in many diverse forms, suitable to the practical conditions of the locality and the base. Thanks to that, there has been a change in the awareness of the elderly, gradually changing old farming practices, shifting the structure of crops and livestock to suit the seasons and consumer tastes; many elderly members have boldly invested capital to expand production and business, bringing high economic efficiency.

To create conditions for members to develop their family economy, many association bases have mobilized members to help each other with production experience, advise on economic models suitable for family conditions and local conditions; coordinate with mass organizations, communities, and credit organizations to create capital sources to help poor elderly households with capital and means of production. The movement of the elderly competing to do good economic activities has developed widely and has been responded to by many elderly people in Thanh Hoa city, achieving practical results. Since then, more and more new models, creative ways of doing things, many typical examples have appeared boldly applying scientific and technical advances, new technologies in production and business, bringing high economic efficiency. Typically: Ms. Luong Thi Lai, Director of Minh Quang Steel Mesh Company Limited, Chairwoman of the Association of the Elderly in Dong Tho ward, has created jobs for 55 regular workers and hundreds of seasonal workers with an average income of 6.5 - 7.5 million VND/person/month; Mr. Le Xuan Toan, Quang Thang ward, grows high-yield rice, cultivates vegetables according to VietGAP standards; sells mobile household appliances throughout the province, earning a profit of 1 billion VND/year; Mr. Le Thieu Que, Director of Chuong Que private enterprise, An Hung ward, specializes in producing and processing fine art stones, providing regular jobs for 30 workers, with an income of 8 to 10 million VND/month...

Promoting the achieved results, in the coming time, the Elderly Association at all levels in Thanh Hoa City will continue to promote the emulation movement "Elderly people doing good business". Strengthen the coordination between the Elderly Association and functional sectors in propaganda, dissemination, and guidance on how to apply scientific and technological advances. Improve skills and knowledge for the elderly in production, business, and product consumption. Timely commend, reward, and replicate models and typical examples of elderly people doing good business. Thereby, encouraging and motivating the elderly to continue to promote their intelligence and experience in economic development, contributing to enriching their families and society.
