On the occasion of the 115th anniversary of International Women's Day (March 8, 1910 - March 8, 2025), Ho Chi Minh City organized a series of events to honor the beauty and value of women in social life. In particular, the 11th Ho Chi Minh City Ao Dai Festival and the 10th Vietnam - Japan Festival became the focus of attention of the public.
This year’s Ao Dai Festival, themed “Vietnamese Ao Dai – Rising Vietnam”, will take place throughout March with many special activities such as parades, exhibitions, seminars and design competitions. At the same time, the Vietnam-Japan Festival (taking place on March 8-9 at 23/9 Park) celebrates 10 years of friendship between the two countries, bringing together more than 150 trade, culinary , tourism booths and cultural exchange activities.
In particular, the workshop “Minisize Ao Dai” co-organized by the Vietnam Ao Dai Club brought a unique experience. Participants not only learned about Ao Dai but also created their own small, pretty designs as souvenirs. This is not only an interesting artistic activity but also opens up a new direction for minisize Ao Dai to become a typical tourist gift of Ho Chi Minh City.
With guidance from professional designers and members of the Vietnam Ao Dai Club, everyone experienced everything from coming up with ideas, choosing fabrics, cutting and sewing to decorating the Ao Dai in their own personal style. Traditional materials such as silk and brocade were used to create small but sophisticated designs, helping participants better understand the cultural value of the Vietnamese Ao Dai.
Designer Do Trinh Hoai Nam, who always strives to bring Vietnamese ao dai to the world , commented: "This event not only helps spread the love of ao dai but is also an important step in developing mini-size ao dai into a unique gift brand. A small gift but carries the Vietnamese soul."
This workshop also introduced to the public the collection “Ao Dai Symbolizing Vietnamese Women” – the result of cooperation between the Central Committee of the Vietnam Women’s Union and designer Do Trinh Hoai Nam. The collection was inspired by the bird in the logo of the Vietnam Women’s Union, expressing the proud, strong but still soft and feminine spirit of Vietnamese women. The event had the participation of runner-up Ngoc Hang, attracting thousands of spectators at Nguyen Hue walking street and a large number of online viewers.
This event not only honors the Ao Dai but also affirms its role in diplomatic culture, contributing to spreading national pride and bringing the image of Vietnamese Ao Dai to the world.
