While some Western governments have voiced support for Israel's military campaign, many Muslim countries have called for an immediate ceasefire and expressed solidarity with the Palestinians.
Protests have erupted across the region since earlier this week, after hundreds of people were killed in an explosion at a hospital in Gaza. Hamas said Israel was behind the air strike. Tel Aviv blamed a failed rocket launch by the Palestinian militant group Islamic Jihad.
In Jordan, which has a large Palestinian population, more than 6,000 protesters marched in the center of the capital while thousands more gathered near the Israeli Embassy in the country.
Thousands of protesters also gathered in Türkiye and Egypt to demand an end to the air strikes. In Morocco, Islamists and leftists said they would hold a sit-in later on Friday.
In Southeast Asia, hundreds of people gathered to protest near the US embassies in the capitals of Indonesia and Malaysia. Muslims in India held smaller protests in Jaipur and Mumbai, holding up banners reading “Free Palestine”.
