In a post on Threads on January 22, a Meta representative said that users will see posts from the @POTUS, @VP, and @FLOTUS accounts because they were transferred along with the US presidential term. Accordingly, these accounts are managed by the White House, so with each new administration, the content on the pages will change.

Users who previously followed the accounts will continue to follow them, as will archived accounts of the former administration, including @WhiteHouse.

President Donald Trump was sworn in on January 20.

The Obama administration explained the issue in a blog post before the 2016 election. The new administration would take over the accounts, keeping the same number of followers, but no content on the timeline. Old content would be kept in archives.

Posts from accounts owned by former President Joe Biden and former Vice President Kamala Harris were moved to the accounts @potus46archive and @vp46archive.

Political content on Meta platforms has increased following a series of changes by CEO Mark Zuckerberg. Zuckerberg himself donated $1 million to the presidential inauguration fund and attended the inauguration in Washington. This month, he announced that he would end his third-party verification program and end his diversity, equity, and inclusion program. Meta also appointed Joel Kaplan, a former Republican politician, as its new chief policy officer.
