Woman shows off 'doomsday' shelter and the unexpected ending

Concerns about global disasters ranging from natural disasters to world conflicts are prompting some individuals to take special precautions for survival situations.

With the goal of protecting her family from risks from disasters, Ms. Stephanie Norman, a resident of the infamous "tornado valley" in Oklahoma, USA, invested 25,000 USD to build a 2.1 m deep shelter under her house.

According to the Daily Express, Stephanie's bunker quickly attracted attention on social media TikTok when she posted a video introducing it. Built in 2018, the bunker has a sliding safety door, removable stairs to optimize space and can accommodate up to 8 people. "The door has a lock so if there is a tornado, we can lock it to make sure it doesn't blow away," Stephanie explained.

Inside the bunker, she set up a space-saving couch, along with essentials like a flashlight, emergency water, diapers, canned fruit, toilet paper, blankets, snacks, and a first aid kit. Stephanie also prepared a separate survival bag for each family member, containing extra clothes, medications, children's toys, and important documents.

Despite the careful design of the basement, some netizens expressed concern about the risk of the house collapsing onto the basement. One person commented: "If the house collapses, how will you get out?" or "The basement inside the house seems like a bad idea. I think it should be built outside in the yard."

In response, Stephanie said her family’s shelter is equipped with a cable winch to help open the door if it gets stuck. She also explained that many storm shelters in the area are registered with local authorities so rescuers know where to look in case of an emergency.
