These days, many young people in the coastal city of Nha Trang are busy preparing for the spring calligraphy season, hoping to convey their beliefs and aspirations through each stroke of the pen.

With spring approaching, the calligraphy space of Mr. Vo Van Hau (Suoi Dau commune) at the Po Nagar Cham Towers National Special Monument (North Nha Trang ward) becomes more bustling than usual. Although he graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Nha Trang University, Mr. Hau has been passionate about calligraphy for over 10 years. He shared: “When I was young, I often saw calligraphers writing auspicious characters at the beginning of the new year and was fascinated by their soft, elegant strokes. As a student, I proactively researched, learned, and pursued calligraphy until now. Every Tet holiday, I spend nearly a month choosing paper, grinding ink, practicing my writing, and finding beautiful couplets. I choose Vietnamese Quốc ngữ calligraphy instead of Han-Nom script, making it easier for those requesting the calligraphy to understand and appreciate. When writing calligraphy, one must keep their mind calm. Each character not only needs to be correctly formed and aesthetically pleasing, but also convey meaning and emotion. During the busy Tet holidays, even though it's very hectic, the calligrapher must maintain a slow and careful pace with each stroke. I hope that tourists visiting Nha Trang will feel the atmosphere of the traditional Tet holiday through the calligraphy writing space.”

Stopping at the calligraphy space of the Po Nagar Cham Towers National Special Monument, many tourists expressed their admiration and delight. Ms. Semra, a tourist from Türkiye, shared: “I don’t fully understand the meaning of each character, but the way the writer focuses and writes slowly makes me feel the traditional beauty of Vietnam.”

According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy Hang, Head of the Management Board of the Po Nagar Cham Towers National Special Monument, the calligraphy writing activity for locals and tourists has been maintained daily for many years to preserve and promote traditional cultural values, while also creating a cultural highlight at the monument, especially during the early spring days. For the Lunar New Year of 2026 (Year of the Horse), the Management Board will continue to organize a calligraphy writing space within the monument grounds, ensuring harmony with the landscape and overall sightseeing activities. Along with traditional cultural experiences such as Cham dance and Bau Truc pottery demonstrations, the calligraphy writing space contributes to enriching Nha Trang's cultural life during Tet.

Spreading traditional cultural values

At Champa Island Nha Trang Tourist Area (North Nha Trang Ward), Ms. Le Thi Thanh Hoa (South Nha Trang Ward) participated in the calligraphy booth, offering visitors meaningful New Year's calligraphy. Having developed a personal passion for calligraphy, for the past five years, in addition to her professional work as an interior designer, Ms. Le Thi Thanh Hoa has dedicated time to visiting tourist destinations and popular spring festival spaces to practice calligraphy. From the traditional Vietnamese paper and ink to each brushstroke, she meticulously prepares everything with the hope of contributing to preserving and spreading traditional cultural values ​​during Tet (Lunar New Year). “My interior design work helps me understand composition and lines, making it easy to approach calligraphy. During holidays and Tet, sitting and writing calligraphy for those who request it is very enjoyable and makes me feel like I'm doing something meaningful,” Ms. Hoa said.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Anh - Director of Nha Trang Ancient Craft Village said: "In addition to focusing on introducing traditional crafts and local specialties, the craft village also organizes calligraphy writing spaces to serve locals and tourists during every holiday. Collaborating with young people to organize this space not only contributes to refreshing the image of calligraphers during the spring, but also creates a healthy playground, helping young people pursue and develop their passion, while contributing to preserving and spreading traditional cultural values."
