After the 32nd SEA Games, Nguyen Thi Oanh was registered by the coaching board of the Vietnamese athletics team to participate in the Taiwan Open Athletics Tournament taking place on May 27 and 28 with the purpose of testing, evaluating achievements and also as a training session to prepare for the 19th ASIAD in September in Hangzhou (China).

On May 25, the Vietnamese athletics team with notable faces such as Nguyen Thi Huyen (400m hurdles gold medal at the 32nd SEA Games), Nguyen Tien Trong (long jump silver medal), Tran Nhat Hoang (4x400m medley relay gold medal), Luong Duc Phuoc (800m, 1,500m silver medal)... left for Taiwan to participate in the tournament. However, the golden girl of Vietnamese athletics Nguyen Thi Oanh was unexpectedly absent due to other plans, including the charity program "Supporting Dreams" in Bac Kan .

Nguyen Thi Oanh was the brightest star in athletics at the recent 32nd SEA Games in Cambodia when she won 4 gold medals in the 1,500 m, 3,000 m steeplechase, 5,000 m, and 10,000 m events.
