Việt NamViệt Nam09/06/2025

As soldiers on the ideological front, many journalists in Bac Lieu not only devoted their whole lives to journalism, but among them are also outstanding writers in the field of literature and arts.

The journalistic writing style of those writers has created a catalyst for sharp, combative journalistic works that are still emotional and deeply rooted in the reader. And since then, the "territory" of journalism has had journalists receiving the noble title - the Cao Van Lau Literature and Arts Award.

Journalism - writing...

Vietnam's literature and arts have had many awards and noble titles to honor and recognize the great contributions and dedication to the country of the country's artists, such as: State Award, Ho Chi Minh Award, the titles of People's Artist, Meritorious Artist, People's Artisan, Meritorious Artisan... At the local level, the Union of Literature and Arts Associations of Bac Lieu has established the Literature and Arts Award named after the late musician Cao Van Lau to recognize the contributions and achievements of the province's artists. Since 2009, Bac Lieu province has awarded this honorable and noble award to 45 artists.

Working in the field of journalism, 4 journalists in Bac Lieu were honored to receive this award!

That is journalist - writer Phan Trung Nghia, the only writer in Bac Lieu up to now. He is also the writer who helps readers nationwide understand more about the "brand" Cong Tu Bac Lieu, about the "pure" Southern farmers, the "merchant guests", people with simple names, very rustic, simple but exuding the beauty of Bac Lieu people. The journalistic works signed by Phan Trung Nghia are sharper when analyzing hot, current issues, but in the literary field, with a Southern voice and nostalgia for love of land, love of people, homeland, family, hometown... he has created a literary style that is difficult to confuse with anyone else. Many literary works bearing the mark of Bac Lieu such as " Cong Tu Bac Lieu - Truth and Anecdotes", "Merchant Guests", "Crying for Areca Flavor", "A Page of Life Opens Up "... were born and have lived in the hearts of readers since then.

A journalist who was Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Bac Lieu Newspaper and then became Chairman of the Provincial Union of Literature and Arts Associations before retiring, is journalist Tran Chi Thanh - poet Thanh Chi (his pen name). Forty years of hard work is also the time he devoted his heart to contributing to the development of literature and arts from the Minh Hai period to the re-establishment of Bac Lieu province, from the time he was a village school teacher to working as a journalist and then being assigned the position of Chairman of the Provincial Union of Literature and Arts Associations of Bac Lieu province. In particular, he has a total of over 400 research articles on local history and culture in Bac Lieu Newspaper, helping readers have a more accurate view of linguistics and basic knowledge of local culture in general.

Once a reporter, then Editor-in-Chief of Bac Lieu Newspaper and currently Chairman of the Provincial Journalists Association, journalist Nguyen Duy Hoang is also a fluent writer and poet. The two collections “Hiu hiu gio bac” and “Doi dien” are typical examples of the journalistic and literary qualities interwoven in this veteran writer. Honest, everyday and rich in humanistic values, his journalistic works imbued with literature have vividly portrayed the land and people of Bac Lieu - Ca Mau ; reflecting on the hot issues in life, to look back at what each person has done to contribute to a better society. In addition, journalist Duy Hoang is also a poet with many works published in newspapers and magazines, some poems have been set to music by musician Pham Minh Tuan and many other musicians.

And we cannot help but mention a photographer during the fierce fighting years, he was also a war journalist who contributed to Bac Lieu Culture, Arts and Press with extremely vivid photos of the war, that is the late photographer - journalist Vo An Khanh. Let me quote the words of researcher Bui Minh Son, a brief but quite comprehensive assessment of the contribution of a special talent in the field of journalism - photography: "The homeland seen through the lens of artist Vo An Khanh has many levels: the soaring and powerful level of a heroic struggle, the deep level of humanity, of comradeship, the level of maturity and confidence of the period of building the Fatherland. It is rare for anyone, through photography, to write such a rich and wonderful symphony!".

And contributions to the homeland

As journalists, writers, writers, holding pens and cameras with courage, sincerity and humanity, they have contributed valuable spiritual values to Bac Lieu's culture and arts and journalism. Their writings have contributed to promoting the value of the province's literature, creating a distinctive style for Bac Lieu's journalism that is sharp, smooth and easy to touch people's hearts. Those journalists and writers have contributed to sketching a unique picture with many beautiful motifs about a Bac Lieu that is resilient in combat, diligent in work and dynamic in seeking directions for the development of their homeland. They have worked creatively with a love for their profession, creating many high-quality works, worthy of the title "artist - soldier", being the core force directly contributing to building the nation's revolutionary culture in the new era...

Journalism, writing and the interweaving of literary elements in journalism, or journalism in literature, are all evidence of the continuous creative work and attachment to people's lives of these typical journalists. The journalistic, literary and artistic works born from that labor process with passion and intelligence will contribute to educating and motivating the masses to cultivate patriotism, uphold the values of truth - goodness - beauty; fight against wrong viewpoints and arguments and have absolute trust in the leadership of the Party, in the revolutionary path that our Party and Uncle Ho have chosen.

The honorable award in the field of culture and arts named after the late musician Cao Van Lau is both a recognition of the contributions of journalists who have been and continue to contribute to the homeland with their talent, intelligence and heart; at the same time, it is also a motivation for more and more valuable journalistic works to form a "part of the special sophistication of culture", distilled into the quintessence that makes practical contributions to the development of Bac Lieu.
