That is the statistic from the research of the Central Geriatric Hospital (Hanoi), reported by Associate Professor, Dr. Do Kim Que - Vice President of the Ho Chi Minh City Phlebology Association - at the scientific conference on veins held on the morning of April 25.
Accordingly, only 19.7% of medical staff said they clearly understood this disease, 61% knew it superficially and 19.3% did not know at all.
This shows a serious awareness gap in the health care workforce itself.
Dr. Que said that people with varicose veins will have a 5.3 times higher risk of deep vein thrombosis (DVT), a 1.72 times higher risk of peripheral artery disease, and a 3 times higher risk of serious cardiovascular events.
In addition, several large-scale studies have shown that varicose veins are also associated with increased overall mortality.
Through this, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Hoai Nam - President of the Ho Chi Minh City Phlebology Association - launched the campaign "Gentle Start - Firm Steps", spreading the message of taking good care of one's own health to medical staff because that is the premise for caring for patients.

Specifically, the campaign aims to raise awareness among healthcare workers about lower limb varicose veins. At the same time, it enhances the professional capacity of clinicians, improves the quality of diagnosis, treatment and disease management for the community.
In addition to medical staff, some occupations that are susceptible to varicose veins include teachers, sales staff, bank employees, flight attendants, housewives, and office workers.
