For nearly 10 days now, regardless of the sun or rain, 100% of the officers, employees and technical workers of VNPT Song Ma - Sop Cop are racing against time to repair and fix the damaged cable points.
According to statistics, heavy rains and floods in the communes of Sop Cop, Pung Banh, Muong Lan, Muong Leo, Song Ma, Huoi Mot, Muong Lam, Bo Sinh, Chieng Khoong, Muong Hung... have caused damage and severely affected the telecommunications network managed by VNPT Song Ma - Sop Cop. Heavy rains and floods caused landslides and flooded 2 VT and BTS stations; 1,088 concrete poles were broken and collapsed; hundreds of kilometers of fiber optic cables, electric cables, and customer subscriber lines were broken and buried...
Mr. Pham Cong Nguyen, a technical staff of VNPT Song Ma - Sop Cop, shared: Working in conditions of erratic rain, floods, landslides, many days we had to work hard all night, but we always tried to encourage each other to overcome difficulties to handle and restore the system, helping customers get communication information as quickly as possible.
Directly directing the damage recovery at the facility, Mr. Trinh Van Cuong, Director of VNPT Song Ma - Sop Cop, said: With the motto "4 on-site", we are urgently implementing plans to overcome the consequences of the storm; mobilizing 40 employees of the unit and from VNPT Son La to support, focusing on troubleshooting. Currently, the unit has basically restored communications in the areas to maintain connections, communications to serve the work of overcoming natural disasters, search and rescue and communication needs of customers.
Not only VNPT Song Ma - Sop Cop, Viettel telecommunications network also suffered damage, according to statistics, 10 fiber optic cable lines, 20 BTS stations had broken cables and lost power... Mr. Pham Huu Truong, Technical Director of Song Ma - Sop Cop Regional Center, Viettel Construction Joint Stock Corporation, informed: With the highest sense of responsibility, to ensure communication for all customers, as soon as the incident occurred, the technical staff in the unit focused on repairing and reinforcing the fiber optic cable welding points that could not be temporarily hung, planting additional broken, collapsed, and flooded concrete poles, and handling broadband subscribers to serve customers. Along with that, we received support from nearly 30 technical staff from Viettel branches in the provinces, and so far have basically overcome the damage, ensuring the information needs of the people.
Mr. Do Tuan Dat, Secretary of the Party Committee of Huoi Mot Commune, informed: The smooth communication is very important, helping us to grasp the flood situation in the area in a timely manner and direct the recovery and search and rescue plans. Technical staff of telecommunications units quickly arrived at the areas where communication was lost, regardless of the rain and darkness, promptly fixing the problem.
In meetings to direct emergency response and recovery, provincial leaders emphasized that ensuring the highest safety for people is the number one priority, along with ensuring smooth information so that people in flood-prone areas can send distress signals and also so that authorities and rescue forces can grasp information and respond promptly.
Currently, telecommunications enterprises on the Song Ma - Sop Cop route are continuing to review, repair and consolidate the communication infrastructure. Urgently reconnect broken optical fiber cables, prioritizing main lines serving command and control information, and establishing backup lines in flooded areas. At the same time, review damaged cable suspension tower systems to promptly repair them; restore the entire communication system in the area safely and sustainably.
With the efforts of network operators, telecommunications networks in affected areas have been basically restored, contributing to ensuring communication for rescue work and directing the overcoming of damage caused by natural disasters.
