Japan and the United States spend nearly 46 billion VND to sustainably improve child welfare in Quang Ngai

The Son Ha Region Program, funded by World Vision Japan and World Vision USA with nearly 46 billion VND through World Vision International (WVI) USA in Vietnam, is implemented in 06 communes: Son Bao, Son Thuong, Son Giang, Son Hai, Son Ba and Son Cao of Son Ha district ( Quang Ngai province) aiming to sustainably improve children's welfare, especially the most vulnerable children.

According to Decision No. 577/QD-UBND issued by the People's Committee of Quang Ngai province, the Son Ha Region Program will be implemented from May 2024 to September 30, 2027 in 06 communes: Son Bao, Son Thuong, Son Giang, Son Hai, Son Ba and Son Cao of Son Ha district, Quang Ngai province with a total estimated capital of nearly 46 billion VND (non-refundable aid capital).

The Program aims to sustainably improve the well-being of children, especially the most vulnerable children in Son Ha district, through the interventions of 4 Projects: Health and Nutrition ; Child Protection and Child Participation; Livelihood and Community Resource Mobilization and Child Protection Plan. Specifically:

The Health and Nutrition Project aims to reduce infections and diseases in children under 5 years old with the desire to take care of health and nutrition in children under 5 years old and pregnant women; support clean water, sanitation and personal hygiene to prevent diseases in children; Implement and enforce policies related to health, nutrition, clean water, sanitation and personal hygiene.

The Child Protection and Child Participation Project aims to protect girls and boys from all forms of violence and to include them in decision-making processes.

The Livelihood Project aims to help households have sustainable income to meet child welfare. The project aims to increase the output of sustainable agricultural and non- agricultural products; Improve livelihoods and incomes for households and communities; The type of support will be specified based on the needs of the community and the characteristics of each commune and village through the results of annual village/hamlet planning with the approval of specialized agencies and annual approval of the People's Committee of the district and commune. Support on techniques and varieties of crops and livestock such as: Fruit trees, livestock, poultry; based on people's needs, natural conditions, climate, soil to select and deploy suitable and practical crops and livestock to bring high efficiency.

The project mobilizes community resources and a Child Protection Plan with the aim of building a community where children are trusted and cared for. Expected results: District/Commune Program Management Board, Village Development Board and community plan, implement, monitor and review interventions; Communities apply child protection knowledge to care for children, leading to enriching experiences for children's lives; Strengthen community resilience to respond to natural disasters and climate change.

The program also contributes to reducing the rate of underweight and stunting in children under 5 years old from 24% and 31.8% in 2023 to below 20% and below 28% in 2027; achieving 90% of children in the project area to improve their self-protection skills against abuse, school violence, and injuries; reducing the poverty rate from 25.4% in 2023 to below 15% in 2027; achieving 100% of local partners to have enhanced capacity in managing and operating programs/projects effectively.
