Special messengers
According to Mr. Nguyen Manh Dong, Deputy Head of the Committee for Overseas Vietnamese (UBNVNONN) - the agency implementing the Project, over the past 2 years, the program has targeted not only the Vietnamese community abroad but also foreigners who love the Vietnamese language.
One of the focuses of the program is to launch a Vietnamese Language Honor Day in the overseas Vietnamese community, organized abroad in 2024, contributing to widely disseminating the Project as well as attracting the response and participation of people at home and abroad.
In addition, the 2024 Vietnamese Ambassador search contest recorded an increase in the number of participants compared to last year, up to 158 candidates, including some foreigners who love the Vietnamese language.
"Among the five Messengers, there is an eight-year-old Messenger from Japan and a foreign Messenger - a Laotian university lecturer. In addition, the remaining Messengers are from Australia, Germany and from a very special location, Algeria," Mr. Dong shared.
At the same time, he added that the foreign Vietnamese Ambassador is a female Lao university lecturer who is participating in compiling and teaching Vietnamese in Laos.
Meanwhile, the Vietnamese Ambassador from Algeria is taking on the task of teaching Vietnamese to the Vietnamese community as well as teaching Vietnamese to foreigners in Algeria.
According to the Vice Chairman of UBVNVNON, the construction of the Vietnamese Bookshelf continues to receive attention, as a convenient resource for encouraging the teaching and learning of Vietnamese abroad, especially in areas where there is no official Vietnamese language teaching program.
Along with that, ministries, branches, representative agencies, Vietnamese Cultural Centers and Vietnamese communities abroad also proactively organize forums, seminars and talks to share experiences on teaching and learning methods of Vietnamese in many countries.
“In the coming time, the Committee has considered the option of organizing [Vietnamese language] classes by region, such as Europe or Southeast Asia – where many people are interested in teaching. This could be a new direction,” Mr. Dong noted.
