Hoang Tho (23 years old, Ho Chi Minh City), was required to be vaccinated against 6 diseases before being exported to work in Japan.

Tho said she will work in the hotel and restaurant industry and is required to be fully vaccinated in addition to professional training, health check-ups, and testing. The vaccines she needs to be vaccinated against include measles, mumps, rubella, chickenpox, hepatitis A, and B.

Pham Thanh An (33 years old, Ha Tinh ) is preparing to go to Norway to work as a chef. The company owner requires a health certificate, proving that he does not have infectious diseases such as HIV/AIDS, hepatitis A, B, tuberculosis...

The medical examination results were satisfactory and at the same time reminded Mr. An of the risk of infection. He researched online and decided to get vaccinated against hepatitis A, B, influenza, typhoid, measles - mumps - rubella, chickenpox, and pneumococcus.

"In addition to the high cost, the cost of medical examination and treatment in Norway is also very high. If you are unlucky enough to get sick, not only will you lose work days but your health will also be affected. Therefore, I get vaccinated to both protect my health and save money," said Mr. An.

According to Dr. Tran Huynh Tan, Medical Manager, VNVC Vaccination System, Tho and Mr. An are two of thousands of people who have come to VNVC to get vaccinated before going to work or study abroad nationwide in the past 10 months, an increase of about 50% compared to the same period last year. They get vaccinated according to the requirements of their recruiting units, and also proactively get vaccinated against some diseases to protect their health abroad. The most commonly vaccinated vaccines include hepatitis A and B, measles - mumps - rubella, chickenpox, influenza, typhoid, and pneumococcus.

VNVC representative said that the increase in the number of people vaccinated before labor export may be due to the resumption of trade cooperation, labor export, and tourism activities. According to statistics from the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs , in the first 9 months of 2023, more than 111,000 workers went to work abroad, an increase of 8% over the same period last year, completing 3 months ahead of schedule the plan to send Vietnamese workers to work abroad in 2023.

Dr. Tan said that vaccination before export meets mandatory requirements from countries and is also an effective way to prevent disease. Most vaccines have high protection capabilities, significantly reducing serious complications that affect life. Thanks to that, workers can focus on long-term work, avoid work interruptions, affecting working days, wages and accompanying benefits, while saving on hospitalization and health care costs.

According to Dr. Tan, in addition to mandatory vaccinations, additional vaccinations are advised based on the possibility of infection and possible complications.

Among them, measles - mumps - rubella, chickenpox are easily transmitted through the respiratory tract, close contact, conversation... Measles in adults can cause complications of infection, encephalitis affecting neurological function. Chickenpox in adults is less common than in children, but can lead to complications such as skin infections, blood infections, pneumonia, acute nephritis... Complications of pneumococcus cause pneumonia, otitis media, meningitis, and high antibiotic resistance due to the characteristics of the bacteria.

Some statistics show that typhoid fever often occurs in the 15 to 30 age group, concentrated in people who work, live and labor in places with unfavorable sanitary conditions such as soaking in dirty ponds and lakes, drinking raw water...

Flu is prevalent in every country in the world , and is more likely to break out in colder climates like Europe and North America. Symptoms are similar to the common cold, and can lead to complications such as pneumonia and myocarditis.

Hepatitis B is a global health burden, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). Hepatitis B virus leads to millions of cases of chronic hepatitis, cirrhosis, and liver cancer, so vaccination is essential.

According to Dr. Tan, people should not have the mentality of only getting vaccinated when required or when traveling abroad. People can get vaccinated seasonally, when preparing for marriage or pregnancy. At the same time, combine other measures such as regular hand hygiene, adequate nutrition, and regular exercise to proactively protect health anytime, anywhere.
