After the incident in which a group of golfers were caught red-handed by Vinh Phuc Provincial Police gambling before preparing for the VGA Union Cup 2023 - Nam A Bank Cup golf tournament, a number of golf courses or golf clubs have issued notices prohibiting golfers/members from gambling on golf courses.

On March 23, the Tam Dao Golf & Resort Management Board issued a brief announcement about this. “Tam Dao Golf Club requests that customers comply with the laws of the Vietnamese state: No betting, gambling,... in any form within the golf course.”

The announcement was signed by Mr. Dang Ngoc Minh, Head of Tam Dao Golf Course Management Board.

Previously, on March 22, Mr. Tran Van Can, Chairman of Nha Trang - Khanh Hoa Golf Association, also signed a notice to send to members with the content requiring members to absolutely not bet on the course when participating in golf. In case groups want to compete or in tournaments, they can organize awards for those with good achievements, then players need to record and evaluate their achievements with a scoreboard, using that as a basis for awarding awards after the end of the round.

Violating members, in addition to being handled by the authorities, will be subject to disciplinary action by the Nha Trang - Khanh Hoa Golf Association according to the Association's regulations.

Mr. Tran Van Can also said that betting on sports in general and golf in particular is considered gambling and is strictly prohibited by law. Recently, the authorities have been very concerned about betting on golf courses and are aiming to handle groups and individuals who violate the law.

Golfers betting on golf courses is not uncommon. On a caddie forum, a caddie said that the golf course management board banning players from betting will make caddies' jobs easier because they no longer have to record their customers' bets.

However, many caddies believe that this ban will reduce their income because customers may reduce their tips. Besides, many caddies are also skeptical about the effectiveness of banning golfers from participating in gambling on the course.
