The third Ehon Week, a book-connecting event , returned to Hanoi from October 20th to November 2nd, bringing a happy and joyful time of playing with books to thousands of Vietnamese children.
Children play with pages filled with joy.
On the very first day of the book week's opening at the Cultural and Public Relations Building of the Japanese Embassy in Vietnam (Van Phuc Street, Hanoi), the event attracted many preschool children accompanied by their teachers or parents.
Games involving books were organized for young children, such as reciting stories like Ninja Manmaru transforming, The Rolling Acorn, The Rolling Caterpillar, and Everyone Celebrating…
In addition to listening to group storytelling sessions and interacting enthusiastically with the storyteller, the children were free to explore 100 original Japanese and Vietnamese Ehon picture books displayed at the event for readers.
Ehon books are not only for children who can read, but are also suitable for children from 0 years old, helping them experience the world through pictures and stories told by adults.
Those moments spent sitting with their mothers, teachers, and friends, flipping through pages filled with joy and love, fill every child with excitement. These pages, though few in number, open up a world of happiness and beautiful imagination.

Books will always be an important friend and a source of support for children.
In her book, "Bridging the Gap - Memories of Childhood Reading," which has been translated into Vietnamese, Empress Dowager Michiko particularly emphasizes the benefits of reading for children:
"Books will always be an important friend and a source of support for children. Reading gives children a solid foundation in their souls and powerful wings of joy and imagination."
Therefore, since 2017, following the official visit of the Japanese Emperor and Empress to Vietnam, More Production and Bac Cau have intensified efforts to promote Ehon picture books in Vietnam through publishing and organizing reading sessions for children.
Ehon picture book libraries have been set up in many kindergartens, joyful Ehon story reading sessions for child cancer patients are regularly organized to bring joy to young children, and children's fairy tale writing competitions are also organized to develop a creative community for children in Vietnam.
And the Ehon Week, a book-connecting event, was first held in 2023 as part of the series of events commemorating the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Japan, and has been held annually ever since.

To date, the event has reached its third season. With the theme "Nurturing a Love for Nature," the Connecting Book Week showcases 100 original Japanese Ehon picture books along with Vietnamese versions selected by the International Council for Children's Books in Vietnam, ensuring diversity in content, age range, and richness in illustrations.
Publishing houses also provide direct advice to parents on how to choose books, how to interact with children through books, and how to build effective reading habits for their children.
