The purely Vietnamese musical "The Five-Colored Stone" directed by General Director, Meritorious Artist Cao Ngoc Anh, inspired by Thien Nhan's journey, officially premiered to the audience at the Youth Theater on the nights of November 9 and 10.
Journalist Tran Mai Anh and Mr. Greig Craft, founder of the Asia Injury Prevention Foundation
On the first night of the performance, the theater's auditorium had a special audience. They were doctors from all over the world of the "Thien Nhan and Friends" Foundation, who have silently performed free surgeries for Thien Nhan and thousands of friends over the past 13 years.
In the musical, the character Be Mai holds tightly onto the five-colored stone symbolizing belief in miracles throughout her life.
And from there, not only did Thien Nhan create his own fairy tale, the miracle from Thien Nhan's story brought hope and changed the lives of many other children.
Meritorious Artist Cao Ngoc Anh presented 10 free surgeries to Thien Nhan Fund and friends.
The theme of faith is repeated throughout the play, with all the characters appearing. The work "Don't Be Afraid, My Child" - an aria by Mother Coi, sung by poet Khanh Duong and musician Minh Dao, is the anxious voice of Mother Coi standing outside the operating room corridor, but is also the voice of doctors and mothers from all over the world.
In the climax of Act 2, Dr. Greig (Thien Nhan’s first surgeon in the play, inspired by the child’s real-life adoptive father) stopped operating in exhaustion. He stepped back from the operating table, and for a moment met the eyes of Mother Coi, who was placing all her trust in his hands. An invisible force made the doctor move towards the operating table, determined to save the child’s life.
Thien Nhan is likened to an "angel", but that "angel" could not fly high without the people who "gave wings". The maternal love between Mother Coi Mai Anh and Thien Nhan, the kindness of doctors from all over the world, etc. were realistically recreated in the first night of the performance.
After the first performance, Meritorious Artist Cao Ngoc Anh shared that although the performance was not really perfect, for her, the most important thing was the emotion.
The theme of faith is repeated throughout the play.
"I was really happy when the theme song "Fragrant Heart" played, the audience still sat until the last moments and now everyone is still lingering here. I think that a play when the audience enjoys it until the last moments is the happiness of the artists and that is also proof that the work has touched the hearts of the audience" - The program's general director confided.
One of the new and interesting things about "The Five-Colored Stone" is the music . The music is exciting, attractive but also full of depth.
In particular, all the songs performed in the play were completely newly composed and performed, such as the aria "Don't Be Afraid, My Child", the songs "Borderless Heart", "Green Dream", "Fragrant Heart", "Confident", "When Will Mom Get Married"... making the audience "satisfied" when enjoying them.
Every line and event in the play is quoted from real life stories.
"The Five-Colored Stone" is highly appreciated for its young, talented cast, making an impression by combining well all three elements of singing, dancing and acting. The two main actors are Minh Chau (as Mother Coi Mai Anh), Nam Phong (as Thien Nhan) and other actors who have well portrayed the personalities and emotions of their characters. In particular, many actors, despite their young age, have also performed their roles very well.
After the performance, Ms. Tran Mai Anh, Thien Nhan’s adoptive mother, was moved to express that she had accepted more debts of gratitude. This journey of love can continue because it is burdened with such gratitude.
