The project “Sounds of Brotherhood” has the cooperation and contribution of the Embassy of Italy in Vietnam, the Consulate General of Italy in Ho Chi Minh City, the Vietnam National Institute of Culture and Arts (VICAS) and the Hanoi University of Theatre and Cinema, CDP Fund, LCA Studio Legale and Temix.
Music, theatre and art have become tools to help develop cultural cooperation between Italy and Vietnam, in which “Sounds of Brotherhood” is the latest project in many successful initiatives initiated by the World Youth Orchestra (WYO) Foundation since 2001. The activities contribute to training many young Vietnamese artists, promoting the works of domestic artists and organizing activities to support orphans in Vietnam.
WYO President Adolfo Vannucci emphasized that the Foundation brings to Vietnam a message of friendship, brotherhood and peace , through musical performances by many musicians from around the world.
Meanwhile, WYO Artistic Director and Founder Damiano Giuranna expressed his joy at contributing to wonderful experiences for young Vietnamese artists, as well as orphaned children without parents.
On August 29, the event “Sounds of Brotherhood” will take place at Hanoi University with a reading of the poem The Inferno, edited by artists Valeria Almerighi, Federico Brugnone and Carolina Leporatti. This program is exclusively for students of the Italian Department of Hanoi University.
On the afternoon of August 31, the next event of the project will take place at the Binh Duong Mother's Shelter in Ho Chi Minh City, targeting orphaned, abandoned or disadvantaged children aged 5-17.
The project continued in Hanoi on September 5 at Vicas Arts Studio with the final award ceremony of the “Call for Projects” for Vietnamese artists in the fields of visual arts, music and theater, with the presence of Italian Ambassador to Vietnam Marco Della Seta.
Finally, on September 7, the performance concluded the stage workshop experience "Dialogue Sound" scheduled to take place at the Vietnam National Academy of Music.
Ambassador Marco della Seta said: “After the great success recorded in the first half of the year, I am extremely pleased that WYO is returning to Vietnam to participate in the final events of the ‘Sounds of Brotherhood’ project. This initiative has the potential to create effective synergies and establish institutional, cultural and academic links between Italy and Vietnam”.
The project “Sound of Brotherhood” takes place from January to September 2024, divided into 5 areas of activity:
The World Youth Orchestra tour, which includes 70 young musicians from universities, academies and conservatories around the world, in collaboration with the Vietnam National Academy of Music (VNAM), took place from April 6-10 in Hanoi. The concert attracted more than 2,000 spectators, local government representatives and diplomats from many countries.
The theatre workshop “Dialogue Sound”, coordinated by artists Valeria Almerighi, Federico Brugnone and Carolina Leporatti, aims to enable 25 students from the Hanoi Academy of Theatre and Cinema to learn more about cultural exchange between Italy and Vietnam.
The WYO4CHILDREN project aims to develop cultural and social knowledge for disadvantaged children in Vietnam through music. The initiative, which began in January last year, has seen 80 children aged 5-17 learn music theory and learn to play classical instruments such as the violin, piano, percussion and guitar.
The “Project Call” program is a playground for Vietnamese artists of all ages. The project has recorded the active participation of the art community.
Finally, there was a workshop held at the Faculty of Italian Language of Hanoi University by Professor Simone Caputo of La Sapienza University to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the death of composer Giacomo Puccini with the title "Exoticism and the Far East in Giacomo Puccini's Opera".
