The 2025 FIFA Club World Cup features 32 top clubs from across the continents, bringing together the world's brightest stars such as Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe, Erling Haaland, Vinicius Junior and Jude Bellingham.

New competition format

Completely different from previous years, the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup will apply the same format as the World Cup for national teams. 32 teams will be divided into 8 groups, each group of 4 teams will compete in a round-robin.

The top two teams in each group will advance to the round of 16. From there, matches will be played in a knockout format, leading to the quarter-finals, semi-finals and finally the final to determine the champion. One notable point is that the tournament will not have a third-place match.

The tournament will start on June 14 and end on July 13, 2025. Matches will be held at 12 stadiums in 11 cities across the United States.

The opening match is scheduled to be between Lionel Messi's Inter Miami and Al Ahly (Egypt) at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens. The final will be held at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey - the same venue that will host the 2026 World Cup final.

Participating teams

The tournament brings together big names in world football:

Asia (AFC) : Al Ain (UAE), Al Hilal (Saudi Arabia), Ulsan HD (Korea), Urawa Red Diamonds (Japan).

South America (CONMEBOL) : Boca Juniors (Argentina), Botafogo (Brazil), Flamengo (Brazil), Fluminense (Brazil), Palmeiras (Brazil), River Plate (Argentina).

Oceania (OFC) : Auckland City (New Zealand).

Unfortunately, big names like Liverpool are absent because England's spots have already been taken by Chelsea and Man City - the recent Champions League winners. Other big names like Barca, Arsenal, Man United, Tottenham and AC Milan are also not eligible to participate.

Huge Bonus

The 2025 FIFA Club World Cup has a total prize fund of up to 1 billion USD. Of which, about 525 million USD will be distributed to participating teams, with different levels of receipt depending on the confederation (for example, European teams can receive 13-38 million USD).

In addition, teams will receive additional bonuses based on their performance: winning a group stage match will earn $2 million, drawing will earn $1 million. Passing the group stage will earn an additional $7.5 million, reaching the quarterfinals will earn $13.125 million, semi-finals will earn $21 million, finals will earn $30 million and the champion will receive $40 million.

In total, the champion could pocket up to $125 million, not including the initial entry fee.

Each team is allowed to register a minimum of 26 and a maximum of 35 players. Teams are allowed to substitute up to two new players for players whose contracts expire mid-season. However, a player is not allowed to play for more than one club in the tournament.

To facilitate clubs' preparation, the 2025 summer transfer window will open earlier.
