The Nissan Ariya is a pretty good electric SUV, but sales have not met the company's expectations. Meanwhile, the Nissan Leaf is long outdated and its successor is still in development. Therefore, Nissan needs a breath of fresh air in the electric car segment. The model that can do that is the rookie Nissan N7. Launched in April 2025 and quickly put on sale, the Nissan N7 is currently enjoying initial success. According to Nissan, as of May 31, the company had received 17,215 orders for the model in China. The company also said that 70% of the orders came from first-time Nissan buyers.
That’s an impressive number, considering that new electric vehicles in China typically have such high early sales figures. For example, the Mazda EZ-60 reportedly attracted 20,000 pre-orders in just a few weeks. On social media, Nissan said the N7 is currently the best-selling pure electric vehicle of its joint ventures in the Chinese market. At the same time, the car also ranks second in the mid-size and large-size electric car segment with a price of under 200,000 yuan (about 700 million VND). Perhaps encouraged by the positive response in China, Nissan has confirmed plans to bring the N7 to global markets. However, the company has not announced a launch date or specific markets where it will be available.
It is likely to be sold in Europe, especially since Mazda also plans to bring its China-made EZ-6 and EZ-60 electric vehicles to that market. Notably, Nissan recently trademarked the “Primera” name in a number of markets, including Malaysia. This has sparked rumors that the Nissan N7 will be sold outside of China under the Primera name. While the N7 is a notable achievement for Nissan, the company did not develop the entire model itself. Instead, the N7 is based on a Chinese model called the Dongfeng eπ 007. However, some notable details such as the Lamborghini-style scissor doors of the Dongfeng eπ 007 are absent on the Nissan N7. However, most users probably won't mind that the N7 only has regular doors. The N7 is a Nissan with a very different design. The exterior of the N7 is completely different from the rest of the company's lineup, featuring LED daytime running lights and sophisticated headlights. The interior is also more modern than any other Nissan model, including the Ariya, with highlights such as a 15.6-inch infotainment screen, wireless charging, a two-spoke steering wheel and a minimalist design.
In the Chinese market, the standard Nissan N7 uses a 215-horsepower electric motor and a 58 kWh battery, allowing for a maximum travel distance of up to 510 km per charge. Higher-end versions use the same powertrain. In addition, there are two versions equipped with a larger battery with a capacity of 73 kWh and can travel 635 km on a single charge. The price of the Nissan N7 ranges from 119,900 - 149,900 yuan (about 419 - 524 million VND).
