(LĐ online) - The recent unseasonal rains have caused durian flowers to fall off in large numbers. This situation is making durian growers in some localities in Da Huoai district worried and insecure.

The durian garden of Mr. Nguyen Minh Hong Diep's family (Hamlet 2, Ha Lam commune, Da Huoai district) had its flowers fall off in large numbers due to unseasonal rain in recent days.
The durian garden of Mr. Nguyen Minh Hong Diep's family (Hamlet 2, Ha Lam commune, Da Huoai district) has lost a lot of flowers due to unseasonal rain in recent days.

The 2025 durian crop in some localities in Da Huoai district such as Ha Lam, Da P'Loa and Da M'ri town is flowering and fruiting for the second time. However, at this time, in these localities, there have been many unseasonal rains causing the durian flowers to dislodge and fall off en masse.

Ha Lam commune has more than 2,300 hectares of durian, of which more than 1,800 hectares are in commercial operation. According to durian growers, each crop has 3 periods of flowering and fruiting.

Unseasonal rains have continuously occurred in recent days in localities such as Ha Lam, Da PLoa and Da Mri town, causing delays in the inspection.
Continuous unseasonal rains in recent days in localities such as Ha Lam, Da P'Loa and Da M'ri town are causing durian growers in these localities to be worried and insecure.

Actual records show that, in the past week, durian gardens in Ha Lam commune are in the second stage of fruiting of the 2025 crop. This is the most important fruiting stage, accounting for more than 50% of the 2025 durian crop yield. However, when the durian gardens were fruiting, they suddenly encountered unseasonal rains that stimulated the growth of the tree tops, causing the flowers to dislodge and fall off in large numbers. The situation of durian flowers falling off in large numbers has caused durian growers in this locality to face the risk of reduced productivity.

Not only causing cotton to fall, continuous unseasonal rains also caused many durian gardens in Ha Lam commune (Da Huoai district) to lose young fruit.
Not only causing cotton to fall, continuous unseasonal rains also caused many durian gardens in Ha Lam commune (Da Huoai district) to lose young fruit.

According to Mr. Nguyen Minh Hong Diep, residing in Hamlet 2 (Ha Lam Commune), his family is growing more than 24 hectares of grafted durian varieties of Dona and Ri6. The time when the durian gardens are in the second flowering stage, the sunny weather is suitable for durian flowers to grow.

“The weather is at an ideal stage for the durian gardens to grow flowers for the second fruiting season. Before we could be happy, suddenly unseasonal rains occurred right when the durian gardens were blooming. The rain occurred continuously for many days, causing the durian flowers to loosen, dry up and fall all over the roots. After a check, basically the second fruiting season in my family's durian gardens had loosened joints and dropped flowers, so the risk of reduced productivity is inevitable,” Mr. Diep worried.

The situation of durian flowers being disjointed and falling all over the roots is happening commonly in many durian gardens in Ha Lam commune.

Mr. Dang Huy Bo, another resident in Ha Lam commune, said: “My family has 2.2 hectares of durian, of which about 20% of the area that bloomed the second time encountered unseasonal rain and fell off. We are luckier than many other households because the remaining area is currently in the bud stage and will bloom in about 4 to 5 days. However, with the current complicated weather, nothing can be confirmed yet.”

Mr. Phan Quang Thuc - Chairman of Ha Lam Commune People's Committee, said: "Through understanding, it shows that the unseasonal rains in the past have seriously affected the process of durian trees flowering and fruiting. Preliminary statistics in the second fruiting period of the 2025 crop show that about 50% of the durian area in the commune has had its joints loosened and flowers dropped. Although there is still a period of durian trees blooming, people in durian gardens with flowers falling off have no choice to nourish the fruit, affecting productivity, making people very worried."

Luckier than many other households, the durian garden bloomed slowly, avoiding unseasonal rains, but Mr. Dang Huy Bo (Ha Lam commune) is still very worried.

According to Mr. Thuc, the locality is currently coordinating with the agricultural sector of Da Huoai district to guide people in implementing measures to restrain the top to ensure that durian trees have enough nutrients to nourish the fruit in the upcoming third flowering period.

According to research, in addition to Ha Lam commune, in two localities with large durian areas in Da Huoai district, Da P'Loa commune and Da M'ri town, unseasonal rains also occurred, causing durian gardens to lose their joints and flowers during the second fruiting period. Of which, about 30% of the durian area in Da P'Loa commune was affected and about 40% in Da M'ri town.
