Meritorious Artist Hoang Hai takes on the role of Mr. Phi - a responsible man who loves his wife - Mrs. Anh unconditionally (played by Meritorious Artist Kieu Anh) but is somewhat domineering, leading to conflicts with his children in the film Gia Dinh Trai Dau, which will air at 8:00 p.m. every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday on VTV3, starting from December 1, 2025. The artist said he was completely convinced by the script, which was very interesting, especially with many funny situations that he liked because of his "passion for comedy".

- You said you really like comedy, why don't you proactively ask for a role that suits your forte, for example in Tao Quan to satisfy your passion?

Each type of role has its own quality. My tone is suitable for situational comedy - where the actors have to act extremely seriously, while the audience... laughs out loud because of misunderstandings. I often think of misunderstandings where the more I explain, the more wrong I get, the more confusing it gets. The audience finds it funny, but the actors have to keep a straight face.

I like that kind of comedy, subtle, situational, not comedy using words or body movements. As an artist, you can perform anywhere, the important thing is that when the opportunity comes, you accept it.

- Many artists create YouTube and TikTok channels to perform situational skits. Have you thought about building your own channel to do professional comedy?

I do it occasionally on TikTok, but to do it professionally, it comes down to fate. Performing artists shouldn’t be afraid of anything, as long as it brings the audience a smile, a perspective, or something that makes them think more about life. If the time is right, I’m ready.

Many times my wife wants to be angry but can't.

- In "Family in Opposite Marks", the "traditional opera" relationship between Mr. Phi and Mrs. Anh brings interesting nuances, especially at the age of U50. What is your real-life love like at the age of U60?

It’s like 18-year-old love, very strange and lovely. Love has no age. I see many grandparents in their 70s and 80s still joking with each other like children. What’s important is listening and affection. In my opinion, love and affection have no age.

- Listening to the way you talk cheerfully and humorously, there must be little tension in your family?

Many times my wife wants to be angry but can't. Before she can get angry, I make her laugh, so why be angry anymore? The family atmosphere is much lighter.

- MC Thao Van at the movie's press conference still affirmed that he is a real estate "tycoon", of course he always denies it, but I want to ask what is the secret to his success in business, because it is rare for artists who venture into business to be as successful as him?

There is no secret, business is a field where there are no doubles like acting. If you make a mistake, you lose, there are no retakes, you have to calculate, you have to be alert. More importantly, you have to be bold and make the right decision at the right time. Right time, right place, and right people are extremely important factors.

Many bold decisions succeed because of timing. Luck plays a large part. Luck plays a large role in life.

- Are you lucky in business?

I have had my share of ups and downs, but in such a tough market, my luck has not "broken". It is already harder for artists to do business than others.

- Have you ever made a wrong decision because your artistic emotions overpowered your business sense?

Actually, the two complement each other. The artist's sensitivity is sometimes very helpful, while business must be clear. But often it is the artist's softness that makes partners like him, leading to opportunities for cooperation.

In business, the first step is important. If the partner is curious about an artist - "what is he like in real life?" - there is a slight advantage. But then success depends on reputation. Business is very strict, one mistake can lead to a thousand miles.

In the acting profession, talent is one thing, but being invited to take on the right role at the right level is also a matter of luck. Without that starting opportunity, no matter how good an artist is, they cannot show themselves.

Talent, effort, sacrifice are all needed, but luck opens the first door.
