On December 11, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet paid an official visit to Vietnam at the invitation of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh . This is Prime Minister Hun Manet's first official visit to Vietnam in his new position, contributing to further strengthening the good relationship between Cambodia and Vietnam.

Since 2005, when the two countries' senior leaders agreed to set a new motto for developing bilateral relations in the spirit of "Good neighbors, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation, long-term sustainability", over the past 20 years, the relationship between the two countries has been continuously consolidated and developed in all fields, bringing practical benefits to the people of the two countries, actively contributing to peace , stability, and cooperation in the region and the world.

Senior leaders of the two countries have maintained visits, contacts and exchanges in various forms even when the COVID-19 pandemic is still complicated. Cooperation between ministries, branches and localities of the two countries with practical cooperation mechanisms has been implemented more and more effectively, deepening cooperation in all fields. People's diplomatic activities of the Front, friendship parliamentarians' groups, friendship associations, and mass organizations of the two countries, especially in border provinces, have taken place vigorously and widely, contributing to raising the understanding of the people, especially the younger generation, about the tradition of solidarity, friendship, cooperation and mutual assistance between the two nations and peoples.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet during his visit to attend the ASEAN-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Summit in Saudi Arabia.

Cooperation in the fields of defense and security between the two countries has been strengthened. Economic, trade and investment cooperation between the two countries has developed rapidly and achieved encouraging results. In 2022, the trade turnover between Vietnam and

Cambodia reached 10.57 billion USD, an increase of about 10.88% over the same period in 2021. In the first 10 months of 2023, the trade turnover between the two countries reached 7.1 billion USD, a decrease of 22.1% over the same period in 2022.

Vietnam is currently Cambodia’s third largest trading partner (after China and the US) and Cambodia’s largest trading partner in ASEAN. To date, Vietnam has 205 valid investment projects in Cambodia with a total registered capital of 2.94 billion USD, ranking first in ASEAN and among the top 5 countries with the largest direct investment in Cambodia, and ranking second among 79 countries and territories with which Vietnam has invested.

Investment and business activities of Vietnamese enterprises in Cambodia have been actively contributing to social security and prosperous development of the Kingdom of Cambodia. Other areas of cooperation in education - training, transportation, culture, health, telecommunications, etc. have also been focused on and promoted. In 2023, tourism exchanges between the two countries have seen remarkable growth. In the past 10 months, the number of Vietnamese tourists visiting Cambodia reached more than 880,000, while the number of Cambodian tourists visiting Vietnam reached more than 300,000.

The two countries also closely coordinate with each other at international, regional and sub-regional forums, especially the United Nations, ASEAN and ASEAN-led mechanisms, the mechanism of the Summit of the National Assemblies of Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam, the Cambodia-Laos-Myanmar-Vietnam Summit, the Ayeyarwady-Chao Phraya-Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy (ACMECS), etc., contributing to enhancing the prestige and position of each country in the region and the world.

During the meeting on October 20, on the occasion of attending the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) - Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Summit in Riyadh (Kingdom of Saudi Arabia), Prime Minister Hun Manet and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed their desire to continue effectively implementing the agreements signed between the two countries; promote cooperation, connect the two economies, contribute to supporting each other in building an independent, self-reliant economy associated with deep, substantive and effective international integration. Create more favorable conditions for investment and business cooperation activities of enterprises of the two countries, especially in areas such as border trade, economic development cooperation in border areas, and realize the tourism cooperation idea of "One journey, three destinations" between Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam.

It can be affirmed that Prime Minister Hun Manet's visit to Vietnam will continue to be a strong affirmation of the determination of the two countries' leaders in consolidating and further enhancing the traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation between the two peoples, while also bringing new cooperation opportunities to elevate bilateral relations.
