'Snow White' female lead receives criticism

Rachel Zegler faced criticism after "Snow White" failed at the box office. Jonah Platt, son of producer Marc Platt, said she hurt the film.

After the movie Snow White failed at the box office, leading lady Rachel Zegler faced a wave of criticism. Jonah Platt - son of producer Marc Platt - publicly called her "immature" and "narcissistic" in a since-deleted Instagram comment.

According to Daily Mail , Jonah hit back at a critic who called his father “creepy” for flying from Los Angeles to New York to talk to Zegler about her social media posts. “My father, who produces a multi-million dollar Disney project, had to leave his family and fly across the country to reprimand a 20-year-old employee for dragging his personal political views into the film’s marketing campaign,” Jonah wrote.

He stressed that Zegler had signed a multimillion-dollar contract to star in and promote the film, but her statements had negatively affected its sales.

According to Box Office Mojo , Snow White return 88.6 million USD globally, including 44.7 million USD in North America during its opening weekend. Meanwhile, the production budget amounted to 270 million USD , making Snow White face the possibility of loss.

Previously, Variety reported that Marc Platt suggested Zegler work with a social media expert after she posted statements critical of President Donald Trump and his supporters following the 2024 election. Disney was concerned that these statements could alienate a large number of potential moviegoers.

Zegler later apologized and agreed to have her posts censored before the film's release on March 21. However, tensions continued to escalate when she posted a pro-Palestinian message in August 2024.

Snow White (Vietnamese title: Snow White) officially premiered on March 21. This is the next musical/live-action film from the Mouse House, inspired by the classic 1937 animated version but with many changes and innovations in the script.

After its global release, the film is receiving mixed reviews. On IMDb, Snow White received a record low score of 1.7/10 (as of the morning of March 26), from nearly 110,000 viewer ratings. Of these, 93,000 were 1-star ratings, accounting for about 86%. This is the lowest score of any work ever created by the Mouse House.
