Project progress update
The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has officially approved adjusting the completion time of the An Phu traffic junction project to the second quarter of 2026, instead of the end of 2025 as originally planned. This decision was made based on a proposal from the Department of Construction to align with the actual implementation situation.
According to the new schedule, two key components must be put into operation before the Lunar New Year 2026. Specifically, the N2 bridge branch, allowing vehicles from the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay expressway to turn right onto Mai Chi Tho Boulevard (towards Vo Nguyen Giap road), must be open to traffic before December 31, 2025. The HC1-02 underpass, directly connecting Mai Chi Tho Boulevard with the expressway, must be completed before January 15, 2026.

The remaining components of the project are expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2026.
Scale and strategic importance
The An Phu interchange project commenced in late 2022 with a total investment of over 3,400 billion VND. This is one of the key transportation projects, the largest and most modern in Ho Chi Minh City. The project is designed with three levels, including:
- Basement: A two-way underpass connecting the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway with Mai Chi Tho Boulevard.
- Ground level: Central circular island and branching islands.
- Upper level: Two overpasses, including a Y-shaped bridge connecting Mai Chi Tho Boulevard and Luong Dinh Cua Street, and a bridge branching off from the expressway to cross Mai Chi Tho Boulevard.

This interchange plays a crucial role as a major transportation hub at the eastern gateway of the city, connecting key arterial roads such as the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway, Mai Chi Tho Boulevard, Luong Dinh Cua Street, and Dong Van Cong Road leading to Cat Lai Port - the port with the largest cargo volume in the country.

Reasons for the delay and current progress.
According to the investor, the Project Management Board for the construction of transportation infrastructure projects, the project has encountered many difficulties during construction due to the very high traffic density in the area, complex traffic organization, and obstacles related to the underground technical infrastructure system. To date, the construction volume of the entire project has only reached over 70% of the contract value.
Earlier, at the end of June, the HC1-01 underpass on Mai Chi Tho Boulevard was opened to traffic. However, because the underpass is not yet directly connected to the expressway, traffic congestion in the area has not improved significantly. Several other projects, such as the Ba Dat Bridge and the Giong Ong To Bridge, have been largely completed.
Accelerating the completion of the An Phu interchange will not only solve the traffic congestion problem at the eastern gateway but also create synergy and connectivity with future strategic infrastructure projects.
