Car crashes into crowd in US, 14 people injured and dead

One person was killed and 13 others were injured after a car plowed into a crowd attending a birthday party in the US state of Maryland over the weekend.

Xinhua News Agency reported on October 19 that a serious accident occurred in Maryland, USA, on the evening of October 18 (local time).

A car driven by a man plowed into a crowd of people attending a child's birthday party in front of a home in Bladensburg, a town in Prince George's County, Maryland.

"The accident left at least one person dead and 13 others injured. Among the 13 injured were five adults and eight children (aged 1 to 17), at least three adults and one child had to be hospitalized for treatment," police informed.

Videos and photos posted on social media showed a car crashing into a large white tent that had been set up for a birthday party. The tent was partially collapsed.

The driver, identified as a 66-year-old man from Washington, DC, fled the scene but later reported the incident to police, the Bladensburg Police Department said. The driver was questioned and faces criminal charges.

Authorities have opened an investigation into the incident.
