Vietnam Olympic team almost lacks key players to attend ASIAD 19

Vietnam Olympic team officially left for ASIAD 19 with 22 members including U23 Vietnam, U20 Vietnam and 2 members over 23 years old, Nham Manh Dung and Do Sy Huy. However, many of these players were not allowed by their clubs to attend this year's Asian Games .

The men's football event of the ASIAD is not an official FIFA tournament and does not coincide with the international competition schedule (FIFA Days). Therefore, clubs are not required to "give up" players to the Vietnam Olympic team. In particular, this is the preparation stage for the new season, so V-League and First Division teams need to have full strength.

The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) must discuss with the clubs to find a satisfactory solution, ensuring the interests of all parties. This is also part of the reason why VFF intends to use the U20 team - most of whom do not yet play an important role in professional clubs - to compete at the 19th ASIAD.

Some exceptional cases of players born in 2003 and later have performed well and have had a place to play for their clubs, such as Nguyen Thai Son, Vo Nguyen Hoang (Dong A Thanh Hoa), Nguyen Quoc Viet (HAGL), Dinh Xuan Tien, Tran Nam Hai (SLNA). This is a good sign for these players as well as the development towards the future of the national teams.

However, in the short term, for the Vietnam Olympic team, the fact that the best players in the U20 age group have regular playing time at the club will cause difficulties. VFF must convince and need the support of the clubs so that coach Hoang Anh Tuan can use these important players.

According to VTC News, before the Vietnam Olympic Games gathered on September 7, many V-League and First Division teams did not agree to let their players join the national team. After receiving official responses from the clubs, the Vietnam Football Federation decided to negotiate directly with the team leaders. Thanh Hoa Club, SLNA, HAGL... then allowed their players to compete at ASIAD 19.

Participating in ASIAD 19, Olympic Vietnam is in Group B with Saudi Arabia, Mongolia and Iran, the West Asian representatives from the continent's leading football nations. The football competition at ASIAD 19 will take place from September 19. There are 23 participating teams, divided into 6 groups. The 4 first and second place teams in each group and the 4 third-place teams with the best results will qualify for the knockout round.
