US President-elect Donald Trump announced on November 30 that he had chosen his in-law, Charles Kushner, 70, the father of his son-in-law Jared Kushner, as the next US Ambassador to France.
Mr. Trump described Mr. Charles Kushner as an extremely successful business leader, philanthropist and negotiator with extensive experience in the real estate industry.
In a post on Truth Social , Mr. Trump wrote: “Charlie is the founder and Chairman of Kushner Companies, one of the largest and most successful private real estate companies in the United States. He was recognized by Ernst & Young as New Jersey Entrepreneur of the Year, was appointed to the United States Holocaust Memorial Council, served as Commissioner and Chairman of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, and served on the Board of Trustees of our leading institutions, including New York University - NYU.”
The announcement comes as son-in-law Jared Kushner said he has no plans to serve in his father-in-law's second-term administration.
During Mr. Trump’s first term, son-in-law Jared Kushner’s imprint was felt on many, if not all, issues on the administration’s agenda, including immigration, relations with China, the Middle East and the White House’s response to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Since Mr Trump left office in 2021, Mr Kushner and his wife, Ivanka Trump, have moved to Miami and largely stayed out of politics. He founded an investment fund called Affinity Partners, with heavy backing from Gulf sovereign wealth funds.
Speaking at an event in Miami in February, Jared Kushner expressed his desire to focus on his company during this period. However, multiple diplomatic sources and Trump allies told CNN that Kushner is considered a key figure in the new administration's efforts in the Middle East, although he may not take on an official role.
President-elect Donald Trump's recent cabinet appointments are essentially complete, establishing what his aides call a unified, loyal administration, working toward the goal of "Making America Great Again" (MAGA).
