Mr. Kim visited a polling station in South Hamgyong Province on November 26 and voted for candidates running in the regional election, according to KCNA .
North Korea holds local elections every four years and the number of seats is determined by the population of each area.
KCNA said Mr Kim met with the candidates and encouraged them to become "true representatives and servants of the people and make efforts to protect and realize their rights, interests and demands".
Accompanying the leader were Premier Kim Tok-hun and key officials of the Workers' Party of Korea, including his sister Kim Yo-jong and Hyon Song-wol, deputy director of the state media agency, KCNA said.
KCNA also reported that voter turnout in the November 26 election was 99.63%. Overseas residents and seafarers were not eligible to vote.
