Mr. Nguyen Quang Thach continues to walk 3,000km to promote reading in India.

This trip, Mr. Nguyen Quang Thach combined the goals of Books for the right to read of the world 's children and Books against climate change.

On the morning of October 1, Mr. Nguyen Quang Thach departed from Arham Institute of Management and Business, in Pune, Maharashtra. From here, he will walk to Mumbai, about 150km from Pune.

During the trip, he will distribute books about environmental protection to the children he meets.

In addition, he will also mobilize local people for his book dissemination project with the philosophy "One dollar changes the world" to bring books to children.

This is the third walk for Mr. Nguyen Quang Thach's reading campaign project in India, after the first time in 2019 and the second time in 2020.

He said he would walk 3,000km across 29 states of India, promoting 8 million classroom libraries within 10 years, aiming to help about 200 million Indian students have access to books.

Currently, with the joint efforts of the community, Mr. Nguyen Quang Thach has established 60 school and classroom libraries in rural areas of India.

In addition, Mr. Nguyen Quang Thach also set a goal of walking 3,000km in 30 other countries to realize ideas to promote the right to read for children around the world.

Sharing about this trip, Mr. Thach said: "The reading revolution we expect is that farmers and workers read books with their children every day, all rural preschool teachers help students listen to books and play with books, all rural students read books in class and at home, and reading is an important component of students' learning as well as lifelong learning of all citizens."

Nguyen Quang Thach is the initiator of the Vietnam Rural Book Movement with the goal of helping all rural people, especially children, have books to listen to and read.

With the motto "What is good for our country is good for other countries", Mr. Thach expanded Rural Bookkeeping to India, Philippines...

His walking tours in India received support and response from local people interested in developing a reading culture, including Mr. Prakash Lokhande - a famous figure who established more than 7,000 libraries in schools in rural India.

Mr. Nguyen Quang Thach received the King Sejong Prize - a UNESCO Literacy Award in 2016 and the Literacy and Dissemination Award from the US Library of Congress in 2017.
