This is the 22nd time the traditional Hai Luu Buffalo Fighting Festival has been revived, with the participation of 20 buffaloes attracting tens of thousands of locals and tourists from all over with incredibly exciting and fierce matches. After many rounds of competition, buffalo number 15 won the championship, and its owner received a commemorative flag and 60 million VND in prize money from the organizers.
The final round, which took place this morning, consisted of 7 matches: 4 quarter-finals, 2 semi-finals, and 1 final. The third quarter-final match, between buffalo number 18 and buffalo number 14, was considered the best of the round. The two buffaloes competed for over an hour with spectacular moves, receiving applause from tens of thousands of spectators in the arena.

The final match was a contest between buffalo number 15 and buffalo number 19. For the first 15 minutes or so, the two buffaloes continuously probed each other, refusing to engage in combat. The owners of both buffaloes had to enter the arena to urge them to fight, but neither buffalo would attack. The organizers had to resort to a forced fight (having the referee enter the arena, thread a rope through the noses of the two buffaloes, and pull their heads together to force a fight). After a few minutes of forced fighting, buffalo number 19 ran away, accepting second place and conceding the championship to buffalo number 15.
