Former US President Donald Trump has likened the United States to the 'trash can of the world ' when criticizing the current administration's border policy.
Speaking at a campaign rally in Tempe, Arizona on October 24, former President Donald Trump specifically emphasized the illegal immigration situation taking place at the southern border of the United States. "We are the dumping ground. We are the trash can of the world. That's what happened to us," CNN quoted Mr. Trump as saying.

"This is the first time I've said that. Every time I say what they've done to our country, I get angrier and angrier. The first time I said trash, but that's a very accurate description," Trump continued. According to CNN, the Republican presidential candidate is trying to accuse Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic candidate, of illegal immigration in the US. In the past, Trump has described undocumented immigrants as murderers, criminals, and dangerous people.
Trump threatens to "fire" prosecutor
In an interview also on October 24, Mr. Trump declared that he would "fire" special prosecutor Jack Smith within 2 seconds of being re-elected, according to CNN. Mr. Smith is the person who investigated criminal cases against Mr. Trump. When asked by host Hugh Hewitt whether he would "pardon himself" or "fire Mr. Jack Smith," Mr. Trump replied: "Oh, that's too easy. I would fire him in 2 seconds." In another interview later, Mr. Trump said Mr. Smith "should be considered a deranged person and should be kicked out of the country," according to The Hill. Mr. Smith was appointed by Attorney General Merrick Garland in November 2022 to run two investigations into Mr. Trump, including efforts to overturn the 2020 election results and keeping classified documents after leaving office. The classified documents case was dismissed by a federal judge, but Mr. Smith is appealing. Meanwhile, after the US Supreme Court ruled on presidential immunity, Mr. Smith amended the indictment in the election overturning case, in which Mr. Trump was accused of four crimes. Mr. Trump has denied all charges in the two cases. Mr. Smith's removal from office would immediately end the two cases. When asked about the possibility that lawmakers would initiate impeachment proceedings against him if Mr. Smith were removed, Mr. Trump said: "I don't think they would impeach me if I removed Jack Smith." The House of Representatives, previously controlled by Democrats, has impeached Mr. Trump twice, but the Senate then voted to keep him in office. Currently, Republicans control the House of Representatives. Mr. Trump's lawyers on October 24 asked Judge Tanya Chutlan to dismiss the election overturning case, arguing that Mr. Smith was appointed unconstitutionally. Trump's side has argued that Smith's appointment was politically motivated, with Garland acting at "the inappropriate urging of President Joe Biden." The lawyers also pointed to Biden's recent comments about "locking up" Trump. Garland and Biden have denied any coordination in Smith's appointment. Commenting on the threat to remove Smith, Ammar Moussa, a campaign representative for Vice President Kamala Harris, warned of the dangers of unchecked power if Trump is re-elected.
