The shirt was handed directly to President Donald Trump by Mr. Costa, during an event at the G7 Summit in Kananaskis, Alberta, Canada on June 17 (Vietnam time). On the back of the shirt, Ronaldo wrote a handwritten message to President Donald Trump.
"To President Donald Trump. Play for peace ," Ronaldo wrote in black marker next to the number 7, his familiar shirt number for the Portuguese national team and his club matches.
According to Hola , Margo Martin, special assistant and communications adviser to President Donald Trump, uploaded a video to social media capturing the moment the White House leader received a special gift from the world- famous soccer player.
In the video , Mr Costa is heard telling Mr Trump that there is a "special message" from Ronaldo. After reading it, President Donald Trump says: "Oh, I like this. Let's play for peace." Mr Trump then picks up the jersey and shows it to everyone. "That's great," he adds.
It is unclear what Ronaldo's message means, but it is believed to be a message about the current geopolitical situation, specifically the current heated war between Israel and Iran.
Ronaldo will not be playing in the FIFA Club World Cup 2025™ currently taking place in the United States. The 40-year-old is planning to extend his contract and continue playing for Al Nassr Club in Saudi Arabia.
In 2026, if this famous player and the Portuguese team pass the qualifying round, he will have the opportunity to participate in the World Cup co-hosted by the US with Mexico and Canada.
