Just a few days after the women's team won the AVC Nations Cup at home, the Vietnamese men's team also arrived in Bahrain to participate in the Asian-level tournament for men's teams. The AVC Nations Cup (formerly the AVC Challenge Cup) is the top continental tournament for national teams, first held in 2018 and taking place annually from 2022. The tournament officially changed its name from this year's season.
Vietnam team aims to go as far as possible at AVC Nations Cup
Last year, the Vietnamese men's team finished 6th in the AVC Challenge Cup with quite good performances. This year, coach Tran Dinh Tien and his team aim to improve their ranking, at least finishing in the Top 5. To do this, the Vietnamese team must overcome the group stage, win a ticket to the quarterfinals and be determined to win as many victories as possible in this knockout stage.
At the AVC Nations Cup 2025, the Vietnamese team was placed in Group D with South Korea and New Zealand. This favorable draw brings much hope to Coach Tran Dinh Tien's team, because at least they can calculate that they have to overcome the weak opponent New Zealand...
Truong The Khai completely defeated the New Zealand defense.
Having just lost 0-3 to South Korea in the opening match of the group stage, New Zealand had almost no hope left before taking the field against Vietnam. In fact, the experts' predictions were completely correct when New Zealand lost 0-3 to Vietnam in 66 minutes.
Striker Salmon Andrew tries to score for New Zealand
In the first game, New Zealand quickly had to rush into a score chase with the gap always ranging from 3-5 points. The efforts of the team from Oceania only helped them gradually narrow the gap before losing 23-25.
Nguyen Van Quoc Duy's attack
The score was more even in the second set, with both sides at 10-10 at times. From there, New Zealand gradually lost strength and had to accept defeat 22-25. The situation in the third set was no better for New Zealand and they quickly lost 15-25, ending the match with a final score of 0-3.
Vietnam team won the match 3-0, won a ticket to the quarterfinals
By defeating New Zealand 3-0, the Vietnamese team has officially entered the quarter-finals of the AVC Nations Cup, although there is still one group stage match left, against Korea at 8:30 p.m. on June 19.
