At around 5pm on a weekend, walking along Tran Phu Street, we witnessed dozens of people jostling and bustling to get into the parking lot right across from the Intercontinental Hotel. When there were still about 30 cars waiting to enter the lot, the parking attendant announced, “The parking lot is out of cards, please understand.” Dozens of faces looked disappointed because they had waited for more than 20 minutes but still could not park their cars to swim in the sea. Because they could not park their cars in the lot, people had to accept parking their cars along the sidewalk and then go down to swim, although they were very worried because their cars could be stolen at any time. At the parking lots near Tram Huong Tower, next to Bon Mua Coffee… the situation was similar.

Ms. Tran Thi Minh Hieu (residing in Vinh Thanh commune, Nha Trang city) said that almost every afternoon she takes her son to the beach to relax and exercise . However, for many days now, she has not been able to park her car in the parking lot because she arrived late and there was no more space. There are also days when she queues for about 30 minutes, waiting for a car to come out and there is an empty space before she can enter the parking lot. "I think the demand for swimming in the sea is very high, just a few parking lots along the coastal park will not meet the demand. Nha Trang city should research and invest in more parking lots to serve people going to the beach," Ms. Hieu suggested. Mr. Bui Quoc Toan (Phuoc Hai Ward, Nha Trang City) said: “Last weekend I went to the beach but it took me 30 minutes to park my car. With me were dozens of people jostling to line up in the parking lot, creating a chaotic scene. I don’t want to park my car outside, it looks very shabby, it loses the urban beauty, it doesn’t ensure security and order, and it encroaches on people’s walkways.”
Research on additional parking arrangements
According to the report of the Nha Trang City Public Service Management Board, the Nha Trang City People's Committee has planned 21 parking lots on the coastal park route of Tran Phu - Pham Van Dong to serve the people's need for swimming. Currently, the Nha Trang City Public Service Management Board has deployed 8 parking lots on the coastal park route of Tran Phu - Pham Van Dong, including 5 parking lots for motorbikes and 3 parking lots for cars. The parking lots that are often overloaded during rush hours include lot number 3 (opposite Intercontinental Hotel), lot number 4 (opposite number 36 Tran Phu) and lot number 5 (located between Sua Bien park and the park south of Tram Huong Tower). The remaining parking lots only have about 50% of their capacity. However, all 3 overloaded parking lots only have a total capacity of 253 motorbikes, too little compared to the actual needs of the people.
Mr. Ho Hung Vu - Deputy Director of Nha Trang City Public Service Management Board said that the cause of the overload is due to the recent prolonged hot weather, the demand for people to swim in the sea has increased dramatically. In addition, people often choose the beach near the April 2 Square area, so the overload has occurred at 2 times of the day: from 5 - 6 am and from 5 - 6 pm. To solve the above situation, in the immediate future, the City Public Service Management Board will arrange staff to arrange vehicles neatly to increase the number of vehicles parked at parking lots No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5 during peak hours. At the same time, coordinate with the Department of Culture - Information to propagate on the loudspeakers of the coastal park route so that people know and comply; in case of overload, people are asked to park at other parking lots. The Board will also coordinate with the Department of Economics , Infrastructure and Urban Affairs, and the People's Committee of Loc Tho Ward to inspect and handle violations of parking on sidewalks, roads, and walking paths along Tran Phu Park. In the long term, the Board will propose that the People's Committee of Nha Trang City assign the People's Committee of Loc Tho Ward to review and organize additional parking lots to serve people during peak hours at locations such as Khanh Hoa University, Pho Bien Restaurant, Pasteur Institute, etc.
