On February 4, Thanh Hoa PC held a meeting to deploy solutions to implement Document No. 457/EVNNPC-KH+KT, dated January 24, 2025 of the Northern Power Corporation on developing an investment plan to build projects to improve the operating capacity of the low-voltage grid, reduce power loss and reduce the number of low-voltage customers in 2025.

In 2024, Thanh Hoa PC provided stable and secure electricity to meet the needs of socio -economic development and people's lives in the province. The power grid was invested in and renovated to improve capacity. Typically, 5 more 110kV transformer stations were energized and put into operation. 14 intermediate stations of 35/10kV and 35/6kV were eliminated; 461.48km of 6kV and 10kV lines were upgraded to operate at 22kV and 35kV voltage levels. The technical indicators completed the plan assigned by the Corporation, in which the Power loss indicator reached 3.95%, down 0.02% compared to the plan, down 0.20% compared to the same period, down 1.69% compared to 2020 (the first year of the 19th Thanh Hoa Power Company Party Congress) and was the first year that the total power loss of the grid was brought down to below 4%.
However, the loss on the low-voltage grid is still high at 5.20%. The necessary task now is to focus on investing in upgrading the low-voltage grid to deeply reduce losses, achieving the 2025 plan of 4.84% (down 0.36% compared to the same period). According to the latest statistics, the whole unit currently has 1,200 transformer stations with power consumption > 2000kWh/month, loss > 6%. Of these, the Company has made an investment plan to handle 238 transformer stations, the remaining number is very large.
The specific task is to focus on renovating the old, dilapidated power grid to increase operating capacity, reduce losses, and improve service quality for low-voltage customers. Therefore, with the urgent time for the remaining 962 TBA volume while the highest annual investment fluctuates around 150 TBA (volume 7 times higher than normal investment). Therefore, it is necessary to mobilize the entire Company to implement the project, the task assignment process must be ensured in a consistent order and manner throughout. Some large-scale Power Companies must review and consider the necessary force to strengthen.
During the process of investing in transformer stations, the Power Companies closely followed the implementation and simultaneously standardized customer information to ensure correct, accurate and effective investment. In addition, Thanh Hoa still has about 55,000 mechanical meters that need to be replaced, supplemented, and installed with electronic meters, then 100% of the electronic meters on the grid will be completed. Recently, the unit was assigned 31,000 electronic meters by the Corporation, the Power Company will focus on replacing, combining with refurbishing, collecting, and installing low-voltage compensation capacitors to effectively reduce losses.
Many quality opinions were given regarding solutions to improve the operational capacity of the low voltage grid.
At this event, chaired by Director of PC Thanh Hoa Hoang Hai, representatives of specialized departments and divisions presented investment plans, a list of key projects as well as technical solutions to optimize the low-voltage grid system in the province. Implementing these projects not only helps improve the quality of electricity supply, but also contributes to reducing power loss, ensuring safe and stable operation, meeting the increasing demand for electricity of people and businesses. The meeting also discussed investment capital, resource mobilization plans, and coordination mechanisms between units to ensure the process takes place smoothly and achieves the highest efficiency.

In his speech, Director Hoang Hai emphasized the importance of investing in upgrading the low-voltage grid in the context of strong growth in electricity demand. This is a big challenge but also an opportunity. Thanh Hoa, although having a large area and a large grid, has advantages: a large workforce, and the construction investment sector in recent years has achieved good results that have been evaluated and recognized by the Corporation. However, in this period, the Company needs to make a breakthrough and grow, worthy of the position, role and importance of a strong unit in the Northern Power Corporation, so the unit needs to continue to take advantage of and maximize its resources.
The Director requested departments/divisions and units to focus on researching and proposing solutions to build projects on schedule, ensuring quality and complying with regulations on labor safety and environment. There are 12 projects related to equipment that will be completed by March 30 at the latest, and at the same time, urgent replacement of machines to reduce incidents of transformer groups operating for over 10-15 years. Accurately measure data of public transformer stations, especially stations with power loss >2000kWh/month and power loss >6% (under the investment program) on received electricity, commercial goods, upstream electricity purchase price, as well as electricity selling price and growth of each public transformer station. At the same time, it is necessary to have a plan to minimize the impact on the lives and production and business activities of customers during the implementation of grid renovation.
With the high determination and great efforts of the Board of Directors and all officers and employees, Thanh Hoa Electricity Company expects that the investment plan to build a project to improve the operating capacity of the low-voltage grid, reduce power loss and reduce the number of low-voltage customers in 2025 will be completed on schedule, contributing to improving the quality of electricity services and developing the local socio-economy.
