The International Football Federation (FIFA) has just announced that it is forced to withdraw the right to host the U17 World Cup from host Peru . However, the time of this tournament remains unchanged, starting from November 10 to December 2. The reason for this, according to FIFA, is that the host's tournament infrastructure has not been completed in time as committed.
Peru loses chance to host U17 World Cup due to failure to complete infrastructure on schedule
FIFA thanked hosts Peru and the Peruvian Football Federation for their efforts in preparing the tournament. They also expressed confidence that host country Peru would host a future tournament, once the infrastructure is completed.
The new venue for the U17 World Cup will be announced by FIFA in the near future. Although these World Cup tournaments are only held at the youth level, developing countries or countries with big football like Argentina are also particularly interested.
In early 2023, FIFA has had a series of difficulties with the hosts of world youth tournaments. Recently, FIFA withdrew the right to host the U20 World Cup from Indonesia due to the Bali Governor's refusal to allow Israel to participate and protests in Bali.
Regarding the U20 World Cup, Argentina is currently the most prominent candidate to host the tournament. "Many countries have expressed interest in hosting the tournament, Argentina is the most active country" - FIFA president Infantino commented.
