According to the family of Associate Professor Dr. Pham Van Tinh, he suddenly passed away at around 5am this morning (May 10) in Hanoi . The cause is believed to be related to cardiovascular disease.
Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Van Tinh is Deputy Director of the Institute of Vietnamese Studies in Ho Chi Minh City, Director of the Center for Vietnamese Studies in Hanoi, and former General Secretary of the Vietnam Linguistics Association.
Many writers, colleagues, and students were shocked by his passing. Just a day before, he was still updating his status on social media and replying to comments from friends.

Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Van Tinh was born in 1954 in Nam Dinh . As a linguistic expert, Mr. Tinh has made great contributions to the study of Vietnamese linguistics in general and Vietnamese for young people today through many published works.
He is the author of dozens of publications on language such as Opacity and Opacity in Vietnamese (2002), A Day's Journey (2003), Vietnamese: From Words to Meaning (2004), Vietnamese from Life (2004), Interpretation of Folk Songs, Idioms, and Proverbs (2013)...
Associate Professor Dr. Pham Van Tinh is also an advisor to the program "King of Vietnamese Language" and a writer associated with many columns on preserving the purity of Vietnamese language. He also participates in teaching and guiding many masters and doctoral students in language.
