Accordingly, on July 16, an interdisciplinary team of 28 members from the Ben Quan Commune Police in coordination with the Economic Police Department, the Provincial Police, and the Ben Hai River Basin Forest Protection Management Board divided into two inspection teams in the above-mentioned area. One team went to Lot 4, Compartment 4, and the other team inspected Lot 10, Compartment 2, Sub-compartment 576.
Upon inspection, it was discovered that in Lot 10, Section 2, there were camps built near an old gold mine. Going deeper into the mine, the authorities discovered some items hidden by the “gold thieves”, surrounded by a generator. To prevent this, the authorities dismantled all the illegal camps built in the middle of the forest and destroyed the generator.
According to the leader of Ben Quan Commune People's Committee, in order to prevent the subjects from continuing to set up camps to serve gold mining, in the coming time, the locality will direct the Commune Police to coordinate with the Ben Hai River Basin Protection Forest Management Board to develop a plan for regular patrols and controls.
Previously, Quang Tri Newspaper, Radio and Television reported that “gold bandits” had set up camps and dug into mountains to illegally mine gold on a large scale in the protective forest. Immediately after that, local authorities, police forces and the Ben Hai River Basin Protective Forest Management Board organized inspections and raids. However, this situation still recurred.
