In early September, we visited Na Khoang Primary and Secondary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities in Muong Va Commune, Sop Cop District. The school has a spacious and clean facility; teachers and students are excited to start the new school year.

Teacher Ha Van Hung, Vice Principal of the school, shared: In 2018, the school was established on the basis of merging Khoang Cap Primary School with Na Khoang Boarding Secondary School. The school has set a goal of building a standard school before 2025. At the same time, it established a Self-Assessment Council to assess the quality of education according to the standards of the Ministry of Education and Training ; disseminated to teachers and notified to parents and students in the school to participate in the implementation.
Of the 5 national standards for schools, the school identified 2 difficult standards to achieve: Management staff, teachers, employees and students; facilities and teaching equipment, educational activities. Therefore, the school proposed to the Department of Education and Training, the District Department of Internal Affairs to recruit 17 more teachers, which is still lacking compared to the assigned quota. Currently, the school has 65 staff, teachers and employees; of which, 82% of the teachers have qualifications that meet the standards or higher; 3 teachers are excellent teachers at the provincial level, 15 teachers are excellent teachers at the district level.
Regarding facilities, the school promotes socialization, calling on organizations and individuals to sponsor to complete facilities; invest in building new rooms for youth activities and traditional rooms; build new kitchens and canteens at Na Lu; support teaching and learning equipment, learning tools... The school has 32 solid classrooms, 12 semi-solid classrooms, 2 IT classrooms, with 50 computers; department rooms, libraries and functional rooms are all connected to the internet, ensuring that managers, teachers and students can use information technology for self-study and research. In addition, there is an experimental garden of more than 150 m2.
During the school years, the school has launched a movement to compete in teaching well and studying well. Every month, it organizes thematic activities on innovative teaching methods, using information technology, enhancing professional group activities, and observing classes. It directs subject teachers to prepare content well before class, apply information technology in teaching hours, combine teaching methods well, and create excitement for students.
In addition, the school has carried out well vocational education and life skills education activities for students during and after school hours. From the beginning of the school year, the school has focused on nurturing excellent students and tutoring weak students in all grades, especially in Math, Literature, and English. In recent years, the school's student population has always been over 99%; students with good and fair conduct account for over 95%; the percentage of excellent and fair students has always been stable, especially in the 2022-2023 school year, good and excellent students account for over 32%. From 2019 to present, the school has had students winning prizes in competitions for middle school students at the district and provincial levels.
In the 2023-2024 school year, the school has 45 classrooms, with over 1,100 students; of which, 422 are boarding students. The school's kitchen area is built according to a "one-way" process, divided into separate areas, including areas for storing ingredients; processing fresh food; cooking and storing cooked food. The school arranges 3 meals/day, ensuring adequate nutrition for students eating and staying at the school.
With the attention of all levels and sectors, along with the efforts of the staff, teachers, students and parents, we believe that Na Khoang Primary and Secondary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities will reach national standards level I by 2024.
