Launching the contest "Creating communication products about smoke-free environment"

On the morning of October 23, the Ministry of Health launched a competition to create communication products on smoke-free environments to encourage creativity in health communication and spread the message of healthy, smoke-free living nationwide.

The contest was organized nationwide by the Central Center for Health Communication and Education in coordination with the Tobacco Harm Prevention Fund. Dr. Vu Manh Ha, Alternate Member of the Party Central Committee, Permanent Deputy Minister of Health attended and delivered a speech at the Contest Launching Ceremony.

The event also attracted the participation of nearly 300 delegates from units under the Ministry of Health and provincial/municipal Centers for Disease Control.

The contest "Composing communication products on smoke-free environments" is held to raise public awareness of the harmful effects of cigarettes and e-cigarettes, while encouraging creativity in health communication , spreading the message of a clean, smoke-free living environment.

The Organizing Committee said that the contest is open to officials and employees working at the Centers for Disease Control in provinces and cities across the country. Contestants can participate individually or in groups.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, Dr. Vu Manh Ha, Alternate Member of the Party Central Committee, Permanent Deputy Minister of Health, emphasized: The Competition for Creating Communication Products on Smoke-Free Environments is a meaningful communication initiative, demonstrating innovation in the approach and way of conveying health messages to the community.

The contest is not only a playground for medical staff at provincial Centers for Disease Control, but also a place to gather creative communication ideas and strong messages, contributing to raising public awareness and promoting positive behavior in preventing and combating the harmful effects of tobacco.

Dr. Ha Anh Duc, Director of the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management; Director of the Tobacco Harm Prevention Fund; Head of the Contest Organizing Committee, said: Over the years, the Tobacco Harm Prevention Fund has supported ministries, branches, provinces/cities to promote the implementation of smoking ban regulations in accordance with the Law on Tobacco Harm Prevention, with continuous efforts that have gradually created a major change in people's awareness, sense of responsibility and behavior.

According to the report results after 10 years of implementing regulations on smoke-free environments, the rate of exposure to secondhand smoke has decreased significantly in most public places, of which in medical facilities it has decreased from 23.6% (in 2010) to 21.3% (in 2023).

The 2023 survey results show that the rate of people knowing about the Law on Tobacco Harm Prevention and its provisions is 59%; the rate of people accessing information and propaganda on tobacco harm prevention is 74.2%.

Promoting communication work on tobacco harm prevention in recent times and in the coming years will continue to play an important role in creating positive changes in community awareness and action in preventing and combating tobacco harm.

As the unit assigned to organize, journalist Vu Manh Cuong, Director of the Central Center for Health Communication and Education, Co-Head of the Organizing Committee, Head of the Jury of the contest shared: "With two forms of competition: video clip and poster, we expect to receive creative works, reflecting truthfully and deeply on efforts to prevent and combat the harmful effects of tobacco, inspiring action to build a clean environment for individuals and the community."

According to the Organizing Committee, each unit/individual can submit multiple works, as long as they are not duplicated and ensure creativity; contestants can choose to participate in one or both categories.

The best entries will be used in national anti-tobacco communication campaigns. The award ceremony is scheduled to be held in December 2025 in Hanoi.

Contest entries include two types: Video clip and Poster. AI-generated products are not allowed.

For video clips: Duration from 30 seconds to 2 minutes/video clip, ensuring easy to understand and attract viewers. Minimum video quality must be Full HD 1080p, MP4, MOV or AVI format. If the video has dialogue, Vietnamese subtitles are required to ensure accessibility to a wider audience. Music used in the video clip must be composed by the contestant and copyrighted or used from copyright-free sources and comply with the terms of use.

For communication posters: The work must be creatively designed, expressing the message of preventing and combating the harmful effects of tobacco in a visual and easy-to-understand way. Posters can be designed digitally or by hand, but must be converted to a soft file when submitting the entry. The standard size is A3 or A2, JPG, PNG or PDF file format with a minimum resolution of 300 DPI to ensure print quality. The poster's layout must be clear, easy to see, and harmoniously combine images and text to convey the message most effectively.
