With its outstanding historical, cultural and archaeological values, Go Thanh is not only a valuable local heritage but also a vivid source of documents with great potential to link witheducational activities and sustainable tourism development in the new era.
Go Thanh archaeological site in Tan Thuan Binh commune, Cho Gao district is one of the important archaeological sites of the Oc Eo culture. |
The relic site covers an area of about 17,000 m², located on a sandy clay soil mound, with an average elevation of 3 m above sea level. Through many excavations, archaeologists have discovered 271 valuable artifacts, of which 196 are made of gold, including statues of gods such as Vishnu, Nagasa and Nam Than. In particular, the statue of Vishnu and a collection of 18 gold leaves carved with elephants were recognized by the Prime Minister as National Treasures in 2021. These treasures are currently being preserved and displayed at the Tien Giang Provincial Museum.
Although it has been ranked as a national historical and cultural relic since 1994, the promotion of Go Thanh's value is still limited. There is a lack of practical educational programs for students; tourism activities are spontaneous and lack clear orientation; infrastructure for sightseeing is not yet synchronized; communication and promotion of the relic have not yet created a widespread influence. In that context, there needs to be comprehensive solutions to both preserve and effectively exploit the value of the relic, aiming at the goal of sustainable development.
First of all, it is necessary to link the Go Thanh Archaeological Site with traditional education and practical experience. Putting the site into the local education program, organizing extracurricular activities, and practical learning at the site will help the younger generation gain direct access to the history and culture of the South. At the same time, building digital educational products such as: Documentaries, online lectures, 3D models... will increase the attractiveness and reach a wider audience of students.

At the same time, it is necessary to orient tourism exploitation in a sustainable and specialized direction. Go Thanh can become a highlight in cultural and archaeological tourism, combined with ecological space and local craft villages.
Overall planning, conservation and landscape restoration need to be carried out synchronously. In addition, it is necessary to design experiential tours connecting relics - cuisine - craft villages, and build a team of tour guides knowledgeable about Oc Eo culture to improve the quality of service to tourists.
In addition, it is necessary to strengthen multi-sectoral linkages, effective communication and promote socialization. Promoting the value of relics requires close coordination between the cultural, educational, tourism sectors and local authorities. Mobilizing social resources in tourism conservation and development is one of the feasible solutions. In addition, it is necessary to have a multimedia communication strategy, connecting Go Thanh with inter-provincial tourism routes, creating a mark on the cultural tourism map of the Mekong Delta.
Promoting the value of Go Thanh archaeological relic not only contributes to preserving and spreading Oc Eo cultural heritage, but also opens up opportunities for socio-economic development for Tien Giang province in a humane, sustainable and rich local identity direction.
